"An Fullfat"?

Apologies but why do members regularly refer to it as 'an fullfat!'... it has puzzled me every time I've read it on here for the last few years... feeling an English and/ or etiquette lecture coming Embarassed

'AN' prefixes nouns that begin with a vowel, or semi vowel such as Y, or indeed a silent H which is followed by a vowel.

Now, FFRR starts with the sound 'EFF' as in EFF EFF, AAR AAR, which starts with a phonic 'E when spoken', hence An FFRR.

But, 'Full Fat' starts with a consonant, hence it would be prefixed by the 'A' when spoken.

And yes, my dear old Mum (God rest her) was an English teacher during her working years. Thumbs Up

The original post question was 'an full fat'
I agree with above and 'an FFRR',
I would back that up with 'an Effing RR'

But out of the circle of this forum, the 'unknowing' would not know what full fat, 'fattie' or indeed FFRR would mean. It's like the car circles that talk about 'scoobies' 'beemers', and 'ricers'. Evo, works, and black version, red label etc, have similar sort of vague 'inner circle para-phrasing'
I think non owners refer to us as 'Range Rover, ..vogue, not the sport'

-if the FFRR phrase overnight, say, became offensive, what would you suggest it could be renamed as, as I wonder if the new l405 might one day, get its own moniker.
Even more so, now that there are now three 'Range Rovers'

Maybe a 'goldilocks bear' hierarchy might one day describe them. Surprised

Byt would the bear analogy work on age or size etc etc?

i.e. does the 405 become Daddy Bear because its bigger or more expensive? Or does it become baby bear as its the youngest? Whistle

I've noticed the same thing done with RRS. I would always write "a FFRR", because, in my head, I read it as the full version rather than "F F R R"; it's one of those situations where either is correct. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I suppose that means we must all have the same aim then.....

Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
That's why a bear can rest at ease
With just the bare necessities of life
