Hi all,
Owing to my recent purchase of a TDV8 it's time to get this one up for sale. Putting it up here for a little bit before it makes its way to eBay. The car is currently in the process of having it's private plate moved over to the new car, so will need to wait until the V5 returns before the car can be signed over to the new owner. Original registration is VO03 WTL.
I bought this car around 15 months ago as a work vehicle to get me to and from various customers around Wiltshire/Hampshire/Wales. Everybody said I was mad to get a FF as a main car which needed to be relied on so heavily, but I spent a long time searching for one that I felt I could trust. I must have done something right as this car hasn't let me down once since I've owned it, and I've done about 20k miles in it. It's had its niggles which I'll get to shortly but overall it has been a fantastic car, which is why I've taken a plunge on a late 2008 model TDV8.
In my ownership the car has had:
-1x Final Stage Resistor
-1x N/S/F Dunlop air suspension strut
-2x Xenon headlight ignitors
-4x tyres (2 are Pirelli, the other 2 are Nankang, both tyres perform excellently and have good tread left over)
-1x N/S/R upper wishbone bush
-1x 4 wheel alignment from Land Rover
-1x N/S tailgate strap
-2x rear lights
-2x front wipers
-1x windscreen washer jet
-4x Brake discs with pads
-1x Gearshift surround (second hand, known working)
-1x Transfer shift motor (second hand, known working)
-1x New heated steering wheel
-1x Driver seat trim surround
-1x Intravee II with Alpine KCA-420i (replaced CD changer to allow iPod integration)
-1x MK4 BMW Sat Nav unit
-1x Bluetooth ULF module (I forget which version it is, but it works perfectly with my iPhone 6 plus - it took a long time to find the right one. The bluetooth does not currently have a pairing button, so it requires the use of navcoder to put it into pairing mode, but I'll try to get a pairing button fitted before the car sells. If I don't get time I'm happy to show the new owner how to do this.)
-1x Reversing camera with automatic switching on selecting reverse
-1x Rear wiper motor (Second Hand, known working)
-1x New Battery
-1x Top intercooler hose (also have lower intercooler hose, came as a set but not been fitted yet)
-1x Key Fob button replacement (DIY, not the best, but fully functional!)
The car is a Vogue and as such has all the toys. In addition to this it's got rear seat entertainment with wireless headphones, which displays a selection of DVD's from the DVD changer hidden in the boot compartment. The car was last serviced by myself at 145000 miles. This included Oil, Oil filter, Air filter, Fuel Filter and the all important Crankcase breather, the car is now on around 159000 miles, and will be getting an oil and filter change before it goes to the new owner. Unfortunately it only has service history up to 72000 miles, but I do have a receipt for an oil change (amongst many other things) carried out at 112968, and I've added an entry into the service book myself at 145607 for the service I carried out, mostly for my own records.
The car has MOT until September 2016, on the last MOT there were 2 advisories:
both front anti roll bar end links have slight play
o.s rear lamp lens condensated
The O/S rear lamp has now been replaced, but the anti-roll bar links have not yet been done. They do cause a slight rattle over certain terrain, and if I were keeping the car I'd be getting them replaced, but with my new Range Rover sat on the drive needing work this is where my money needs to be focussed currently.
Overall, I think the car is in good condition for its age, it does have a few dings and scratches, which I've tried to capture as best I can in the photos, but it is a 13 year old car after all. It does clean up well though and looks great when the sun's out.
The only other issues I can think of with this car, which has been present since I bought it, but has done 20k miles without causing a fuss, is when you put the car into Sport/Manual mode it illuminates the Low Range "mountain" light. When in manual mode it does show you which gear you're in but the Low Range light remains illuminated. I've had the car plugged into a friends Snap-On diagnostic equipment, and gone through all the live data that gets reported by the car. The car does know that it's in High Range, Sport/Manual and whichever gear you've selected, so I can't see it causing a big problem. Related to this, the car doesn't always like switching from Lo to Hi. I've replaced the expensive parts that could've been causing the issue, which were the Transfer Shift Motor, and the Gear Surround switch assembly. Both of these parts were sold to me by a friend with the same car, which he was breaking for spares and are known working items. I'm told, and worked out from having studied the Land Rover wiring diagrams, that the only other part that could throw up these issues is the "Transfer Box Shift Control ECU" (Part number NNW500440). These can be picked up relatively cheaply on a well known auction site for £30-70, and are straightforward to fit, but do need coding to the car by someone with a diagnostic machine capable of this function. For this reason, and due to the car not being used for off-roading, I've not replaced this yet, so it would be down to the new owner to get this sorted.
Lastly the car seems to suffer from the floppy wing mirror issue, and won't stay folded in. I never fold my mirrors anyway so I only noticed this recently when I accidentally hit the button when I meant to roll down the window! I'm led to believe this is a relatively straightforward fix, but as you'll see from the photos one of the mirrors is starting to flake paint off so I'd be inclined to replace the mirrors anyway if I was keeping the car.
Apologies for the long post, I've tried to be as honest as I can and listed every issue I know about. I'm not really sure what these are going for currently, but having looked at the prices of similar age/condition cars I think I'd like £5750ono.
I do also have the CD changer which will be included with the sale of the car, along with some wind deflectors that were fitted when I bought the car.
