So given the cost of a new seal 80! I am going to try with a tube of the silicone as per http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic30015....=boot+seal

have a look at your existing seal closely. Mine was rotten around the top corners, if it's as bad as mine was (and mine wasn't leaking that badly), then i doubt it's worth bothering with sealant, and if you do use sealant, then if it doesn't you've got an awful mess to clean up to fit the new one.

Your where right, went to add the silicone and the top left corner is pretty much disintegrated |

There is also a putty type sealer inside that never dries that seals the rubber to the bodywork... You won’t get that on a non genuine part sir |

Remove the old seal and any lumps of dried mastic and clean mounting flange around the tailgate opening with Meths.
