2007 - 2012 soundproofing differences

I've seen it mentioned that later rovers had more soundproofing .
Can anybody please tell me the differences ?

I'm about to embark on a sound deadening project and figured if factory parts were a great improvement I would order from the dealers before I start dynamiting and cc foaming .

I've already put foam under the factory bolt-on piece on the bulkhead behind the cabin filter ,
And put dynamite and foam on/in the plastic filter holder .

My next steps are to apply it to the bulkhead behind the battery and brake servo whilst the cowl is off .
And dynamite and truck-bed-liner the wheel arches with foam on the wheel arch liners .

The inside of the rover is pretty quiet as it is , but I would like to cut down on road-noise and more importantly engine-noise ....

I have BFG ATs fitted to my 2012 and need to cut down the noise/reverberation from the front tyres on some surfaces. The rear was fixed with stick-on similar to Dynamat lining the spare wheel well but I suspect the front guards are vibrating as they have an empty sound when tapped, unlike the dead sound from the doors. Noise from the 4.4 TDV8 is not an issue for me.

Thanks for the links Stan .
I've already done a search and read them threads .
I planned on doing the spare wheel area last weekend but never had chance

The engine noise is my top priority .
This weekend I hope to do the rear as planned and install all new front-screen hardware to stop the wind noise .

I think the engine noise will annoy me more once the wind noise as gone Smile

It's probobly not and maybe I'm making it a problem !! Smile

Compared to the other cars we drive it's far superior comfort wise .

Maybe it's rose tinted glasses , but my 4.0 p38 drove much quieter .

Something as simple as a rubber bung missing from a hole in the bulkhead will make a massive difference. People pull them out to poke cables through for stereos, phone kits and after market towing electrics etc, Or a dislodged grommet from around existing cables is the same.

my older 4.4 is near silent at idle and barely audible at motorway speeds. Are your engine mounts ok? a worn one of those will transmit noise through the body too.

Well I'm currently buying parts to go through all the underbody rubbers , that part of the project will start over Xmas with new transmission mount and are droplinks .
But that is being done to mainly stop the vibration at idle .
It will be interesting to see noise results once the 3 mounts are replaced .

Even at idle , the car is noisier on the inside than outside Laughing

Just an update for anybody thinking of adding sound deadening ...

To now I've taken out the cabin filter housing and unbolted the factory carpet underneath so the housing splits in 2 .
I then stuck some stinger pro roadkill (dynamite extreme equivelant) inside .

Then today I lined the area where the battery is with the same (2 layers) and a layer of foam .
I took the battery tray out and removed the holders for the bonnet release cable , and with the factory "deadening" unbolted at the top I was able to get most of it covered .
With that section reassembled the factory fixings and battery tray are holding everything in place nicely .
(The rubber stuff sticks ok but the glue on the foam layer is not the best )

I am also thinking of fitting a battery blanket to add an extra layer . Iirc the vw vr6 corrado had a nice factory one so I need to double check battery sizes then I'll find one on eBay ....

Tomorrow I plan to tackle the other side once I've removed the wiper linkage and motor , although this side will be more awkward due to the brake servo being in there .

Once I've gone as far as I can from the engine-bay side I plan to see what can be done on the bulkhead on the inside , though I'm wary of taking the car off the road whilst I remove dash/console/carpet etc .
