Can a Defender110 pull a 5th wheel caravan?

We're thinking about a 5th wheeler but I can't bring myself to buy one of those nasty Japanese pikey pickups. I got to thinking about a 110 crew cab pickup so we get to keep enough seats but still have a load bay. I'm just not sure if it would be long enough or if I would be looking at a 130. Any ideas chaps?

Ta. Dom.

There was a UK 4x4 company (not Foley) who offered this very thing about five years ago….I stopped following LR/buying all the mags every month when I sold my Defender so don't know if they still do.

They used a standard 110 double cab pick up with a raised fifth wheel coupling to tow American made trailers. The trailer had an extended arm out the front which the pin was attached to.

EDIT: This wasn't the company http://www.vipex.co.uk/vipex-start-build-o...ght-artic/ because the company I remember definitely retained the truck bed and sides, utilising a raised coupling. But as you can see, it can be done with a 110.

The last post on this page talks about what I have described http://www.rvoc.co.uk/forum/threads/defend...cab.18493/

You are welcome.

I remembered something else about the rig. The trailer was less than 3.5t and the Defender had a compressor and automatically adjusting air through a valving arrangement that varied the trailer braking with weight and speed etc.

From memory, it might have been Nene Overland but this outfit are advertising now, suitable for short bed trucks

They seem to to the whole thing but best of all, they have a hire service which may be good for trying before committing or even as a cheaper option for the occasional holiday.

A fifth wheel caravan with a section to carry a horse would be a perfect set up for me. I could get rid of the Horse lorry then

Why not look at an F150/250/350? You can get them with the cargo rear wheel setup so ready for the extra weight at the back? Dodge RAM or such as well.

They will be petrols or much larger Diesel engines so better suited to towing a bigger rig and they are easily converted to LPG(petrol ones!) and can hide large tanks as well so a fair old range on them as well 👍 FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
