United Kingdom 2003 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Zambezi Silver
Sat Nav

Im still on the look out for a TD6 range rover and I'v viewed a few with the very unpopular conversion grill which I thought looked rather good and didnt look cheap or badly fitted like many of you on here said but anyway my question is can I fit sat nav to easily to an SE model? I prefer the way the dash looks with the nav as it really gives a much more upmarket look.

The model im currently looking at is this one

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2003-LAND-ROVER-RANG...27b6e17e00

It seems to have a nice low mileage and I really like the colour and the interior seems in good order compaired to many I'v viewed

I wouldn't touch an SE with a barge pole. You're not just missing the nav. You also have the cheap seats, no heated rear seats or steering wheel. 6 speaker system instead of 13 and no parking front parking sensors.

Halogen lights also, not Xenon - you don't even get headlamp wash/wipe!

It's chronically overpriced (I just sold my Vogue with LPG for 10k) and he seems to think its facelifted!? Its not, its had a £15 grille stuck on the front.

ALSO they are NOT the original alloys, this seller is obviously a bullshitter or just doesnt know a thing about RR's. They look like they are off a sport, in which case are unsuitable and can cause damage.

Im not worried about heated rear seats or steering wheel. The only things I'd miss is the xenons and sat nav as Im not keen on the wood finish in the vogue anyway so I'd prefer the standard black finish. also I'd be removing the headlamp wipers anyway so I could fit the facelift grill so Its not to much of a big deal for me

I thought that was fairly cheap? all the ones I have view have had much higher miles for a similar price. Especially up here in scotland the range rovers are commanding a real premium some garages are asking 16-17k for 2003 TD6's with over 100,000 miles on the clock.

What model do you think I should be looking at for £14k bearing in mind it has to be a TD6 with below 75,000 miles and in a nice colour (not green, red or silver)

Nice colour. However with that netto grille on and RRS wheels and bog standard spec- you could offer him £8k and then even if he accepted it you'd still hate yourself for getting the transit van spec.

I've seen some HSE's which were less depressing but given that the FFRR is supposed to be the pinnacle you're only cheating yourself. It's all about Vogue and upwards.

It's a nice looking advert. Well presented with good/large pictures. But that doesn't make it a good buy.

Nothing wrong with an SE if that's what you want. But you can't really go upgrading the bits you don't like (like the satnav and headlights) as if you are going to do that get a better spec car in the first place with the money, with the extra toys as well.
You won't get back all the money you spend converting the dash/lights. An SE is going to be difficult to sell unless you go cheap and undercut all the HSE and Vogues on the market which are better buys. In a few years you'll be selling it for half the advertised price.

But if you want a nice colour vehicle with a "Range Rover" badge and are not really worried about all the missing toys or resale value then check it out. Then get it checked out by a Range Rover specialist.
And with that milage make sure it's got a 100% service history from new that you can check up on. Because people don't usually buy the slower, noiser diesel to do small milages and 55k on a 7 year old car is low. With so many ex-owners, you'd have thought some of them would have done more miles.

Just noticed:
It doesn't say it has a service history on the listing. If that's so, you can ignore the milage.
And in the pictures the front towing cover is missing. It would only have been removed if the vehicle was towed or winched. It should have then been replaced. That would concern me a little.

nice looking car but as the others say, way too "poor" spec. here's what went in auction the other day (add 5% for buyer's premium). Add £1500 for LPG to a V8 petrol and you've got a far better car for less!

Monte Carlo Blue SE also was not especial order, my first L322 was exactly the spec he is selling and it was not a special order except I had heated rear sears. TBH a TomTom or even an iPad with dash mount is better for satnav as they are updatable and can show speed cameras whereas the optional LR nave was £3000 extra on the SE when I purchased mine in March 2003. I wonder if it is my old one as it had very low miles on it when I sold it for an RRS and apart from the stick on trim and privacy it could well be MC Blue wasn't that common on FFRR even though it really suited the car 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

I was looking for a couple of months regularly

the price premium that diesel holds over petrol is dosent add up for me

Unless you are buying it as a 20K mile a year commuter of of course (and paying fuel out of your own pocket)

I went for the V8 petrol 4.4 in the end, you get a lot more car for your money, usually with less mileage

look at the total cost of ownership - you may sell the petrol for less, but make sure you buy it for less in the first place so it makes no odds

petrol is harder to sell as they get older I think - people shopping at the lower end of the market are often put off by big fuel bills, whereas someone spending £40K or £80K on a car obviously has other means to pay £££ fuel bills Wink

you can always LPG the petrol (as mentioned above) if you intend on keeping it long enough and doing the miles to recoup the outlay

Id set yourself a budget and look the the lowest mileage/best condition petrol Vogues you can find, I think you will be surprised Smile cheers

Retrofitting satnav is possible (I've done it)- but it's by no means easy and will cost a minimum of roughly GBP1700 in material alone with all parts sourced used/via ebay. And you either have to build your own loom or have one made as LR do not sell the satnav loom individually and replacing the entire vehicle wiring for satnav is prohibitievely expensive.

I do have to address Tim's post here: the satnav can be upgraded and made to look and feel every bit as good as the newer units or an aftermarket nav. A Tomtom will be less expensive though.

One other item to consider: the TD6 gearbox is known for causing problems around the 80-100k mile mark. Make sure you budget that in to your running costs.

As Fox said, if you really like the car and it checks out fine, then by all means - make yourself happy. On the other hand, taking into account what others have said, wouldn't it make much more sense to look for a car that's spec'd the way you want it? Considering the price, the somewaht quirky history, AND the options not being the way you want...

And one last suggestion: maybe it's because I'm from the Land Where Everything is Bigger, but it seems to me that travelling a couple of hours to save a few thousand quid is a worthwhile proposition. There is more than one post on rr.net where people have traveled 1500+miles to pick up a RR. You can't even do that in the UK! I'd suggest you take the LR motto more seriously: Go Beyond!

If you do buy this RR and are dead set on installing satnav - shoot me a pm.

what sort of MPG do you get out of the 4.4 compared with the TD6? Those auction prices do seem very good, I would always be a bit worried about buying from an auction though Confused

Is the 4.4 generally a more reliable engine with less problems since it doesnt have the turbo etc?

You will have different seats, with different memory options. You also wont have the hi-line sound system with DSP unless specced.

You could spec an HSE up to the same equipment level as a Vogue but it was often cheaper to just buy a Vogue...

Andy, if you see my post from a while ago, I bought mine over a year ago at this very same auction (Brightwells in Leominster, Shropshire) completely untested and unseen (not to be advised!!) but with a motor trade professional with me. Mine is an HSE TD6 but has full vogue spec except seats and sat nav. It has been perfect except for a minor stereo issue (£70 to fix) and a change of EAS pump (£100). I have had over 12,000 trouble free miles out of it and took it to Europe and back (2,000) miles in the most comfort I have ever travelled in, getting over 28 MPG. And mine cost few thousand less than your bluey.

The seller obviously knows nothing about Rangies and there are still good ones to be found. Take someone with you who knows their way around a range and go early and spend an hour going through everything to see what works and what doesn't - also look at history etc although I have to admit mine had 5 previous owners, no service history but my advisor told me it was a goodie despite that.

Having seen dan_uk_1984's wheels in the flesh (4.4 V8 LPG) I can say that it is a great car and amazing value costing a lot less than your bluey. But even he has found one or two minor things that need sorting so they are all a bit of a pig in a poke.

Hope that helps.
