If its not dripping oil its not a LandRover..... Not really, but the question is did the engineer seem concerned about it. If it looks old and isn't dripping from the gearbox it may be an old leak which has been fixed, was it the auto box or the transfer box where the oil was. There are a fair few instances of the DD295 transfer box leaking, either from the seals around the sensors or solenoids or from where the box is joined together (two halves stuck with silicone effectively) the sensor seals are easy to fix if its them, if the box needs resealing then it has to come out, be split in 2 and stuck back together AFAIK it was about £400.
difficult to say where the oil at the top of the engine is coming from, but if it seem old and isn't dripping...... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
