I guess if folks know the correct terminology to search for their problem then its a valid point.

There is also a balance to be struck with regard to detering new members from chipping in / asking. We may know its there (a given topic) because we have read it x months ago. I think a polite nudge is the way forward. Repeat offenders of course are fair game for all out ribbing.

In all honesty there is no longer any point in suggesting people search. They have to sift through 90% rubbish posts of people asking the same question.

And i have no problem helping others who are prepared to help themselves. Frankly though when the answer is in your handbook WTF are you doing asking a forum.
