Scared the living daylights out of myself last night... | |
My 02 Vogue has an intermittent "Engine Failsafe" message coming up when I hit a bump (of which there are plenty in this area ) so I've been trying to track the reason down. Had a false alarm a couple of weeks ago with a hose off the EGR which made the problem much more common but hit a bump after I fixed the EGR hose and the old issue is still there...
Anyway, I've got a Faultmate which is excellent but I've had it a while and had to return it for repair - It came back on Thursday so I went out last night and I'm not really sure what sequence I plugged it all together but the RR went MENTAL!!! The bloody siren inside / outside is enough to cave your ear drums in so I was really popular and couldn't get it to stop - it went through three cycles, the air suspension went inactive, the key fob wouldn't work, the boot wouldn't open.. no interior lights. It wouldn't communicate with the Faultate either so I was ready to jump off the roof of the house.
Did a bit of soul and web searching and ventured back out this morning to see if it had maybe gone into "Major huff mode" and come out of it through the night. Unfortunately not.
However, starting from basics, I checked the fuses and found a blown fuse to the diagnostic plug and once that was replaced, a whole bunch of dead stuff woke up, and I could interogate via Faultmate.
30mins later, all faults cleared. Voila! However, I'm sure I've got a bunch more grey hair than I had yesterday!!
