Auxiliary coolant pump & FBH

Hi 1st post....
I have a 3.6 2008 L322 I can’t get heat in the cab from the FBH.
The fbh works I believe the problem is as follows.
If I turn the ignition on turn the fan on I get 12v to the pump next to the heater valves and the pump runs as it should.
If I set or manually use the parking / aux heater (FBH) there is 0v going to the pump. The fbh fires up and I can feel the coolant pipes around the pump and valves worming up but the pump is not running.
I gave the pump 12v when the FBH was running and got worm air in the cab.
Anyone ever had that fault and any idea how to solve it?

Got the same thing on mine recently so decided to have a look at it today - here's my experience based on what I've read/tried so far

It could be that the pump could be in lockout mode - there's a pdf in the Wiki about how it all works https://www.fullfatrr.com/gallery/albums/u...er_fbh.PDF
, but essentially if it fails to start correctly three times under certain conditions in goes into lockout mode. It then needs to be reset either by the dealer (erm, no!) or by disconnecting the power for 10 seconds. You can achieve this by pulling the fuse out, or disconnecting the battery.

On my 2009 3.6 it's fuse 59 behind the glovebox, bottom row, second from the right, but check your manual to make sure. It's described as "Auxilliary heater (diesel models only), Independent heater". I just pulled this, counted to 10 and popped in back in. So far it seems to be working normally now as I can hear it all firing up when I press the remote, but I won't know for sure that I'm getting hot air through the cabin until the car cools down overnight and I can try it properly 09 RR Westminster 3.6TDV8 - Stornoway Grey / Black interior - now gone (sad face)

Didn’t work for me. FBH starts up then stops after a few minutes. Theres an accompanying ticking noise from the rear of the car. Starts at about one per second then picks up to about twice per second, then it cuts out. No heat coming through. Further investigation required I think 09 RR Westminster 3.6TDV8 - Stornoway Grey / Black interior - now gone (sad face)

The ticking noise at the back will be the fuel pump my one makes that noise so that’s good...
It’s just not sending power to the auxiliary coolant pump ... when I provided power to the pump myself I got heat in the cab..

The pump next to the heater valves only runs for aux residual heating afaik, the aux pump for the FBH is actually bolted onto the FBH and controlled by the FBH. That’s my understanding from the workshop manual and how our 2007 worked.

We had two fail in 5 years of ownership, you have the have the arch liner out to get at it. Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Just ordered a new FBH pump. Any tips for replacing it? Is access ok once whenwheel arch liner is out?

You can get to it without removing the FBH, but I prefer to remove the few bolts and take the FBH out to improve access. You’ll need a couple of hose clamps, and I think a Torx bit for the bolt that holds the pump onto the FBH.

It takes around 30 minutes, including cleaning up behind the arch liner etc I gave everything a coating in Dintrol the first time while the arch liner was off.

Fixed it

Used a disco 3 circulation pump cut the plug off and soldered the one off the old pump onto it.
All working back to having a worm cab in the mornings.
