Just been chatting with someone in the pub, he was talking about an RX8 and a 2001 Masserati, and how fast they were.....

I know what you mean. People always assume RR's are slow. Where as in reality mine is faster and the DSC is so good mine can outcorner every car in the carpark at work bar the new Cooper S.

Threw him back in the seat, cornered a tight corner at a much faster speed than he expected, stopped on a sixpence, then rinsed and repeated

Strangely, I found mind had more mid range pull than a Megane 225. He did try and undertake me on the motorway just after joining on when there was a big gap behind. 2006 Mercedes CLS

Interesting fact: on a recent spirited drive across Europe with an RX8 in convoy, he had the lowest comfortable cruising speed and caused us to stop twice as often as we needed to due to a fuel tank the size of a pea and a huge thurst at high revs. I could go on and mention oil consumption too.

previous car was a sports car with grip to spare and more importantly, very predictable and gradual when it did let go.

Erm, yes. I work on an industrial estate and have to pull out onto a fast road with lorries hurtling down it. If there has been a light rain it mixes with the diesel all over the road and makes it quite slippery. When I pull out in these conditions the front wheels can struggle for grip a bit, and if I really have been pushing it then I'm sure the back would want to pendulum out if it weren't for the DSC. Also the M4 with an inch or so of snow on it at 60 was interesting. The DSC was constantly kicking in just trying to maintain a strait line, although I did have a diagonal moment for 2-300 yards when I hit an ice patch. The RR is actually incredibly stable in a drift with not too much desire to swap ends. And as for turning them over, nearly impossible unless you clip a kerb whilst sliding at speed.

Ha, I know that feeling, I cringe when I approach a corner a little over ambitiously, its been OK so far but when complared to my other cars in the 'fleet' I just can't get my head around it yet, perhaps some high speed driver training in the RR would be beneficial. I know it's not top heavy but I totally sympathise with you. |

The only downside to driving "enthusiastically" is you chew through tyres rather quickly. |
