BlackVue Power Magic through Cigarette Lighter?

Hi All,

I've got a BlackVue DR500 and I'm thinking of upgrading to the 650 dual camera model. I currently have a very neat setup where the cables are tucked around and into the cigarette lighter in the front armrest cubbyhole. This way I can leave it running permanently live if I want to, or pull it out when I'm going away and leaving the car locked up somewhere safe (saving the battery).

What I'm wonder now is... Would there be a way to route the BlackVue via a Power Magic Pro box and still run it through the permanent live cigarette lighter? This would allow me to leave it running for long periods if I want to but also have the ability to disconnect if I want to?

Thanks

Depends on how handy you are, but it's fairly straight forward - you could just connect a lighter plug to the other end of it - but kind of pointless, it's really been designed for a permanent install, so you would be better running the cabling to behind the glove box & using piggy back fuses Thumbs Up

Thanks Alistair. I'm not very handy..

So for a permanent install is it just a case of plugging the BlackVue power point straight into the Magic Pro's female cigarette adapter receiver, and then the other end of the Magic Pro should be wired into a biggyback fuse?

Thanks

Yep Thumbs Up

Some instructions here

I've not fitted a power magic - you might need a permanent AND an ignition live - but that just means 2 piggy back fuses and selecting the right ones to tap into. You will also need to connect the negative cable to the chassis of the car - but most pieces of metal will work, so its a case of finding a convenient bolt or screw & connecting the cable there - or you could even connect the wire to a crocodile clip and connect it that way.
