A forum means?

Seen some posts lately where debate seems to be provoked reference views as to whether of not its appropriate for other members to make open comment either directly in response to an OP and/ or regarding connected/ similar matters (I'm referring to Range Rover topics and not jokes, political or other off topic/ misc posts which I don't partake in).

Oxford dictionary defines a forum thus:
"A meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged:... we hope these pages act as a forum for debate".

Surely if people post on open public forums, it will inevitably invite debate on the subject matter and the OP/ those posting thereafter should not try and assume the ability to police resultant responses via editorial rights?

Thumbs Up

I tend to agree - everyone is entitled to an opinion - but in some instances, independent moderation is required and threads sometimes need to be locked or deleted.

If I wanted everyone to tell me how great I was, I'd be on FaceBook Whistle

I enjoy being challenged because very very occasionally I'm less than 100% correct Thumbs Up

/\ /\ /\

That's all fine until it becomes personal, distasteful or potentially libellous - in which case I think we need even-handed moderators Thumbs Up

^^ I agree that this is a nice place for a chat........... and then someone has to spoil it with words like BONG, SCREEN OF DEATH, Stealers, and then it all ends in tears Shocked

And then there is the really sickening one that goes.........It all went Pete Tong.... in desperation it was sent to stealers and cost 5.8 million pounds to fix, and the very next post is some smarty pants saying if you'd removed fuse number 99 turned it upside down and put it back all will be well Censored Censored Banging Head Big Cry

And in the light of resent events I can see why some threads have disappeared.... And all I can say If I were King I'd issue all forum members with a 75% discount card for the stealers, so that we paid what the rest of the world pays for their repairs Thumbs Up and I don't need to worry where the oil is coming from, as I've found a new source... just under the ffrr.. but I haven't pinned it down to the exact point so I can't collect it to sell, but I'm optimistic Shocked Laughing Laughing

This forum should be either mechanical or light hearted, life is saddening enough at service times and there are other sites to chirp your politics on Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
Inventor of the 'Guide-o-Matic automatic wheel alignment tool'
Former long term L322 owner, Up/Down graded to a Classic Tractor!
