MY12 mirror Approach lights

It appears that my MY12 AB has mirror Approach lights but I can't find any details on them.

I would like puddle lights to turn on when the door is opened but with interior lights off. I live on a property with lots of summer insects so don't want the interior lights on when the door is opened to open and close gates but puddle lights would be good for...puddles! My now-gone D4's door puddle lights operated this way but I'm still trying to discover options on the L322.

Edit: Now knowing they are approach lights and are associated with unlocking, I have now confirmed that they operate when the vehicle is unlocked for the duration of the interior lights providing the interior lights are enabled, but that they do not operate if the door is subsequently opened after interior lights have gone off. However this does not assist with my desire to have puddle and now also approach lights operate even though interior lighting is disabled.

I may remove the bulbs from the interior lamps leaving the map reading bulbs in-situ and enable interior lamps. There's no entry in the owners manual for a fuse for the approach lamps (indeed no reference to approach lamps that I can find) so will look for fuses in "empty" spots then perhaps power the approach lights from the interior lights.

Can you not deactivate the interior lights by pressing the centre light button for 5 seconds or 10 seconds?
Could do it on a D2 and D3/4.

Disabling the centre lights by pressing the switch for 3 seconds also disables the door puddle lights, unlike the D4 whereby the door puddle lights remain operational.

I haven't checked but suspect the same bcu hardware might be used with a particular output used for puddle lights on the D3/4 but programmed for the approach lights on the later L322s.

Edit: EUCD has setting for "puddle lights outer mirrors" set to "not-fitted" so will see if "fitted" makes them work as puddle lights.
