Air suspension issue

Hi folks

Went out for a drive yesterday and all seemed normal, turned car off and got a inactive suspension flash up then it disappeared. Started car and no message or gong, raised suspension to off road height, went up but seemed to take ages. Lowed to normal and drove a few miles home, felt like the car was a bit low at the front when driving home went in house then came out an hour later and from passenger side sat on the floor (see picture)

. Started engine and it raised up, i could here the compressor then it stopped, this morning it was still at normal height and this eve still at normal height after not being used all day. Ive now raised it to off road height which seemed to rise at normal speed and its seems to be holding up and not loosing air. I was thinking it would be a case of ordering 2 new front struts but as i said it seems to be holding air now. Any one had the same ?

thanks will do, i guess it may be pinching the hole in the bag at the moment so temporally stopping the leak

Mine was very similar, limped all the way home to Lincolnshire from Belfast, the further I got the worse it was, oddly on the motorway it was fine. It turned out to be front offside airbag was leaking (it had cracked where it rolled over and only leaked in certain positions). I feared the worse, took advice on here and decided to have a go myself. New airbag from Island 4x4 (Brilliant company), jacked the car up wheel off and I couldn't believe how easy it all was. First one took me about 90 minutes, the second one just over an hour. Airbag was £125, piece of cake to do. BMW i3 Electric Car

sounds same as mine, and yeah ive already been looking on island 4x4, will be ordering 2 front bags once my mechanic pops in next week. Think ill buy the complete struts rather than just the bags

If the strut is OK the bag is an easy change and the kit is a good quality kit from Island 4x4, its only one nut and a spire washer. BMW i3 Electric Car

Definitely sounds like the air bag failure as AJGalaxy2012 said, straight forward job.

As you mentioned easier to replace strut / bag assembly, (Tight hub / strut bolts though). Thumbs Up

Thanks all

Ill have a better look tomorrow as been working all weekend, ive had it running on the drive with the suspension in all positions and cant get it to loose air again, had it in the off road position all night and normal position all day (engine off) and not dropped at all, compressor not running either. Im guessing the airbag has rolled over the hole so not leaking

Hiya, have just had a similar thing happen to me on my new ( to me) 2012 4.4 tdv8.
Car was getting called hissing Sid !!!
I replaced both front airbags with Arnott ones. ( I did look at island 4x4 ) but the arnott ones were only a little bit more.
I found it an easy job. I put a whole day aside and didn’t rush.
I found a little bit of rust on the seat of the strut where the air bag would seat so I treated it with a bit of sand paper and some rust proof paint from buzz wield.
Whilst I had the front end in bits I replaced the front discs and pads as well as they were a bit nasty once I got the front wheels off. ( I did use island 4x4 for all my brake parts and they were great )
