So, the day after sailing through it's MOT, my alternator packed in.
Driving along, muted the radio as it sounded like a mix between either stuck viscous fan/knackered supercharger/bearings in Alternator/belt tensioner.
Pulled over and turned the engine off, opened the bonnet and got the "hot" smell.
After some time i restarted it, same noise... BONG BONG BONG... Transmission Fail, HDC Not available, Gearshift Position Limited Gears....
Got a multi-meter, Battery on 10v, with engine running, 7v.... Ah...
New Alternator on the way then Might as well do the belt tensioner at the same time I guess!
I'd say it must have been on the fritz for a while as the battery was only put on last year. Fortunately I had the old battery at home that had been on the CTEK so I stuck that on and drove somewhere safe it will stay there until I swap the parts.
As soon as I put the old (new) battery on it the IID tool was able to clear all the faults.
Suppose it serves me right for being smug about the MOT!
