Cleaned my old man's new motor + 1st post

My old mans had this about a month or two now and loves it. Hes away on holiday at the moment and let me use it whilst hes away Very Happy So i thought id give it some TLC as a nice surprise for his return since hes been helping me out alot recently.

I forgot to take any before pics but im sure you all know what a dirty range rover looks like! It took me all day yesterday but im pretty pleased with the results.

All done by hand i might add! It felt like my arms were going to fall off!

I struggled to get reflection pics as the sun was refusing to come out properly but such is life.

These 1st set of photos are with the suspension lowered right down which helped when trying to reach the roof!

DOH! I forgot to post that bit!

Cleaned using 2 bucket method with megs shampoo and a mitt, then dried off using a waffle weave drying towel. Clayed using megs clay kit with ice detailing spray i think (cant remember just nipped up to halfords and bought one as the megs had run out!). Polished using autoglym SRP, then waxed using Collinite 915. Windows were done using rain-x, black trim done using autoglym trim gel. Think that was about it!

Can a mod please change the title to Cleaned my old *mans* new motor! I must still be half asleep this morning Laughing

Nice to see another Megs user, although recently round here halfords and the indy's have stopped stocking the full range which is a pita if you need something quick!

V good work, silver is a great colour when looking at its best.

Not Megs I know, but I can highly recommend AG AquaWax. I was so impressed with it I did a write up on it here somewhere.

I used to use Demonshine after the standard weekly wash, but have now moved to AG which leaves it super shiny until the following week. Then do a decent detailing session 2 or 3 times a year, next purchase has to be a power polisher, not sure I want to go for the megs DA though, it seems heavily overpriced?

Thanks! I hope he does!

Yeah i used to only use autoglym stuff but now i have a fairly wide selection. I saw the aqua wax whilst i was searching for a new wax but ended up with the collinite. I might give it a go once this one has run out, thanks for the tip!
I dont know if youve tried it but poor boys black hole glaze is great on dark cars. My car above was cleaned, clayed, polished using the 1st two stages of megs three step polish, then poor boys black hole glaze followed by a coat of colly 915 (I thoroughly recommend this too!). If im honest those pics still dont do the finish justice. Give it a try if your looking for a new glaze.

I dont think i would be confident enough to use a rotary polisher (incase i burnt through the paint) but the dual action polishers seem to be idiot proof. There are a few different ones out there but they all seem pretty much the same. I think its just a case of shopping around to try and get a good deal on one Smile

You can do a lot more with a rotary than a DA, once you get the hang of it you wouldn't ever use a DA again

The aqua wax is really just for use as a drying aid rather than an actual wax. You spray it on lightly when the car is still wet and just run a waffle weave over the car as you would normally. You can use it on glass and trim too so is really easy. It beads nicely and leaves the paint much smoother than just a plain wash.

I tend to use the Megs paint cleaner and polish from the 3 step, but then the megs #16 yellow wax. Obviously after claying (if I have a full weekend)

I could do with someone local with a DA to see if it's suitable.

Dark Blue (Oslo) is a mare to keep sratch/swirl free. Not that Epsom Green (my next colour) is much easier!

Maybe we need a forum detailing workshop session!

You need to use the two bucket wash method to reduce most of the scratch/swirl marks Dan Thumbs Up

Neutral Way ahead of you. Been using the two bucket method since the days of the P38 with Grit Guard and Lambswool washmit. Thumbs Up

Problem is, when the rest of the car is so shiny the smallest little scratch sticks out like a sore thumb.

Yeah i have read alot on DW about rotarys being much more effective but i just dont think i could trust myself with one. To the point that i actually bought one kept it for 2 months then sold it on as i just wasnt confident enough to use it. Its probably a waste of money but i think id rather get used to a da then move onto a rotary and probably take a polishing class at some point. My cousin has just started work with a company called polished bliss so i might take a trip up to his and see if i can get a try of both Smile

When are you getting a new one? The oslo blue does look great when its polished properly. I know what its like keeping dark blue cars swirl free!
