Hardest alloys to clean?

Getting back on top of keeping the car clean and pristine... but my my the Style 9 V spokes are an intricate pain to clean compared with the star spoke wheels that were on the SC. Anyone else find their wheels a pain... and if you've a brilliant cleaning device to recommend, I'm listening Laughing Thumbs Up

Forum 'library image' shows the Style 9:

I use the g-technic wheel sealant on mine. It makes cleaning them a doddle, just have to use soap and water. I also have a set of wheel brushes that allows me to clean between the spokes and the inside of the wheels

I've got the V spoke and they're coated in Gtechniq and the hose washes the dirt off with ease.

I had the wheels off and prepared them first. With the wheels off the car I washed, de tar, iron x etc. Then coated in Gtechniq C5. Left 24hrs to cure.

Literally the Karcher just blasts the brake dust off with ease. Inside the rim face too.

A bit of a faf to clean, prep and treat but Gtechniq say it'll last 12 month minimum probably doing 12-15k. These are on my summer wheels so hopefully the treatment may last longer.

I never thought all that polishing and sealing wheel stuff worked, on the basis the wheels get battered and it would all too quickly 'come off'. If you're saying different though, then fair enough Thumbs Up

@ndf, CIF! Never thought of that either, although I've been known to use Mr Muscle oven cleaner Laughing Thumbs Up

It's the nooks and crannies that make it a pain, so maybe GTechniq C5 and then a power wash is the way to go Thumbs Up

Nobody else highlighting their own wheels as a pain? Was sure someone with Westminster wheels would have had a whinge as well Laughing

Thumbs Up

Was thinking the exact same thing yesterday, looks like some sealer required.

I've got the AB/Westminster wheels too. They've got off road tyres fitted and don't get the same cleaning treatment as they are for off road. I would say the AB wheels were harder to clean because of the multiple spokes.

I preferred the V spoke look so have them as road wheels.

The Gtechniq bonds to the wheel. It can withstand the heat coming from the brake dust. The brake dust and dirt settle on the C5 but go no further.

Preparing the wheel is the key to it working properly.

I was sceptical myself but after reading loads of reviews I decided to try it. I'm so impressed that I'll going to get the whole car treated to Gtechniq.

Getting back to your wheels in question, have strong cleaners been used on them in the past? if so this can damage the surface and then they will never clean up great. If they have gone 'flat' would be worth getting them refurbished and then they will be easy to keep clean once sealed. Thumbs Up

Ryan, just had mine back from the detailer after having it “ceramic coated” whatever that means Rolling Eyes
They did both sets of wheels for me too! Very Happy I went out for the day yesterday and got caught in some weather and my goodness was it easy to wash the car yesterday afternoon! Thumbs Up

Highly recommend it Thumbs Up

The Style 9's have never had a strong cleaner on them and are A1,never been refurb'd... Just a pain to clean when dirty and I've only used car shampoo to clean them. I used Mr M on the SC ones and they came up perfectly well with no loss of shine Thumbs Up

Ceramic coats this and Techniqs that Laughing

It does all sound appealing to have an easy spray off solution and the car looks very nice when clean, not so when dirty... so I'm looking into it all (e.g the GTechniq C5 is about £22 for a small bottle/ eye bath size Shocked

Thumbs Up
