Uneven tyre wear - can a wheel bearing cause it?

Hi all,

As you can see, the rear tyre is wearing very unevenly on my RR - the outer shoulder is almost bald, whilst the inner shoulder (and the rest of the tyre) is almost full depth:

Now, obviously the first thought would be to get the tracking checked - and I'm already looking to do so. But I have noticed recently a bit of a grumble at motorway speeds or when cornering, which I think is a rear wheel bearing on its way out. Would a slightly grumbly but not catastrophically knackered bearing be able to cause this sort of damage to the tyre by letting the wheel assume an extra degree of toe?

2014 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Loire Blue

The rear tyres on mine went like that, the rear camber is supposed to be set to around -2 deg, I readjusted mine to + 1 deg and the wear is now even, the turn in is now much better as well.....

I used a very scientific way of doing it... the compass app on my iPhone, it has a spirit level on it and tells you how many degrees off vertical you are...

Would have thought a wheel bearing would be making all sorts of noise before it increased wear on a tyre.... Pete

2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Adriatic Blue

FWIW I had a rumble from one side recently. Was convinced it must be a wheel bearing on its way out. Took it into the garage and the tyre was like yours. Put a new one on and the rumble has gone.

So fixed the rumble but never diagnosed why the tyre is wearing more on the outside. 2002 Vogue 4.4 V8

Mine did exactly the same as this and it turned out to be the rear suspension bushes

Obviously more than one reason does this then as my bushes were all new just before the tyres, and it had a four wheel laser alignment and was adjusted to factory spec...

I still recon it's the factory settings that are wrong, my rear tyres have worn totally evenly since adjusting the camber... Pete
