Complicated Hi/Lo/HDC/steptronic issue! Please help!!

I've had my L322 for a year now. It's a TD6 diesel but I don't think it makes a difference for this particular fault. Overall its been good to me but there's one group of niggling problems that just won't go away...

When I knock the gear selector over into 'sport mode' instead of getting the message telling me as such I get the 'Lo' mountain illuminated in yellow. When I knock up or down a gear the illumination of the 'Lo' mountain changes slightly, no message telling me I'm in manual mode, but the selected gear is displayed normally.

When I turn the car on and the warning lights are illuminated I never see the glow plug lamp, nor the HDC lamp. DSC lamp in the middle of the two does work though. If I flick the HDC switch up, nothing appears to happen, however if I start to go down a hill you can hear and feel the brakes doing their job. Never had any HDC messages, inactive or otherwise.

Lastly when I flick the switch to toggle between Hi/Lo range, no messages displayed on the dash, no flashing mountain symbol. If in high range however, I can hear the transfer shift motor operate, and when I then shift into D it drives as expected in low range. Back into neutral and flick the switch up, nothing happens. No messages. No 'Lo' mountain symbol flashing. No transfer shift motor noise. If I turn car off, leave for 5 mins, then flick the switch again it reluctantly moves back into high range, but once again, no messages or lights.

This is bugging me more and more as time goes on. So far I've replaced the gear selector surround which houses the HDC/Hi/Lo switches, and I've had the car scanned using a friends Snap-On equipment. Only possibly relevant thing it gave me was a 'CAN Fault' - not much help.

Any suggestions of what to try/where to look gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

Matt
