Contrôle Technique (French MoT test)

She’ll be 11 years old next month and has 117,500 km (+/- 73,000 miles) on the clock.
I took her this morning for the biennial (in France) Contrôle Technique (= MoT test) and happily she passed easily. Thumbs Up
However, despite the tester telling me she was in excellent condition, I was very annoyed to find Transmission y compris accouplement) : Soufflet défectueux (Transmission including couplings: defective gaiter) mentioned in the advisories. I guess I’m going to have to have a grovel under the car to find out which gaiter (I believe there are 2 drive-shaft gaiters, an inner and an outer???) and exactly what “defective” means. And I guess I need to look at the other side too … Big Cry
Still, that was the only problem – not bad for an 11 year-old! It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.
20 years ownership of Solihull products, ALL GONE NOW, sniff!
Current motor: Suzuki S-Cross 4WD auto, 1.4 petrol. Oh so reliable! 7 years now and no problems. Oh, all right then, a leaking shocker replaced under guarantee.

Not to mention the Lada Niva before those. (I said not to mention it!)

Well, it wasn’t like that last weekend ...
Just had a look – it’s the outer gaiter. There’s no obvious split but grease is splattered around a bit.
That needs doing then Big Cry It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.

If the gaiter isn't split just refill it with CV grease and use cable ties to secure it?

Off the top off my head, Steve, isn't there a circlip (jubilee type) which holds it which may need replacing? Would account for no obvious tear.

Thanks both (NDFI & John), good thinking.
More grovelling required! It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.

Ouch, ouch, grovelling on gravel!
Well I was hopeful, but after further grovelling it turns out there is a split in the gaiter, engine side, adjacent to the edge of the circlip. So that’s a garage job – I don’t have the facilities (no garage and a gravel hardstanding, ouch!), nor do I have the inclination at my ripe old age.
Thanks for the suggestion anyway, guys. Bow down It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.
