Whats inside this ??

Hi,
The car is a 4.2L supercharged petrol model, I recently changed the Airfilter and Pollen Filter and checked oil ,water etc.
I noticed this large plastic container (see picture and arrow). Itching to look inside I resisted the temptation to disturb the cover seal.
Soo, can anyone tell me what is inside that box??. Sorry for the dumb question but still learning the mechanical layout.
Thanks
Peter

Thanks Mikey Thumbs Up ,
I noticed the fat wiring loom, then that corrigated pipe diving down to the engine bowels so was a bit uncertain what lurked in there.

on most ordinary cars, such control units are just screwed to the inside of the engine bay somewhere. But given the Range Rover's design capability of driving through half a metre of water (or more) and mud etc. They put it all in a sealed box to give them extra protection. Smile

At the bottom of it is a fan that draws cooled cabin air in from the cabin above the driver pedals to keep the ecu units cool as well. V8 or else ...

I remember opening that up on my Dad's TD6 when I first serviced it around 9 years ago - lots of scary electrics so I quickly put it back on!!

I've got a feeling that the fan is there to produce a positive pressure in the box to stop water ingress, cos if it's for cooling they would surely put vents in the top to aid air flow Shocked Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Not quite, it's sealed to the engine bay, has a flow and return pipe to the inside of the car, just above the brake pedal and a thermo switch that turns the fan on above about 30deg if I remember right.... Thumbs Up Pete
