I've noticed on occasion when I stop or start, there is an odd bump type noise. In all honesty I thought this was likely to be something mechanical / serious, but this morning, I twigged, as I was going down a hill in traffic, that this was actually fuel sloshing back and forth. Am I alone? In all honesty, I've only just filled up and have probably done 70 miles, so not sure if this should teach me to leave the car half full, but would appreciate any views or others' experiences.

Ahh thank you - at least it isn't just me!

I took delivery of a brand new L405 last week. The 3l diesel model.

The slapping of fuel in the tank is very obvious.

Most noticeable when I drive it in to the garage and brake.

Fuel slaps back and forth quite noticeably.

I thought this has been designed out now.

Not a major issue but not what I'd expect.

When sitting in traffic stationary with the engine running I'm sure that I can smell diesel in the cabin. Not exhaust fumes but raw diesel. Not sure where that could be coming from. Obviously though the vents somehow.

On an £80k+ vehicle is it really acceptable for such things to still be happening? I have £400 cars that dont make tank slop or smell of fuel inside and they are 20+years old and french  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I had to have some sort of sound deadening fitted into my 13MY and I am now amazed that my 15.5MY does the same thing. The car smells of diesel for quite a long time after the fix.

Not being funny but if it was mine and it smelt of fuel it would be straight back to the dealer under unsuitable for use, personal h&s from the fumes but mainly if you can smell diesel and it's somewhere on the vehicle I'd be worried about it being near a hot exhaust part.... Even if they have spiller some during work they should have cleaned it off with some petrol or such and job done... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I have noticed the fuel in the tank sloshing back and forth. Usually I have the radio on so don't hear it but was surprised that I did hear it the other day. Not noticed any fuel smell though - that would be more worrying... 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

Yes, the fuels slops around but it's a fantastic vehicle. Makes me feel a million dollars driving it.

I'll ask the dealer about the slopping but still love it regardless!

I did look at a £60k Volvo XC90. Hated it. Borrowed it for an afternoon and it really did nothing for us.

The FFRR is in a league of its own.

Ah, that's what that sound is??!!!! I heard it a couple of days ago for the first time (I normally have music on so can't hear anything). If I am stationary then pull forward or backward and brake hard I can hear what I thought was a soft banging sound underneath but now you mention fuel slopping in the tank, that is almost certainly what it could be.... Ridiculous in a luxury car like this. Grrrrrr!!!!!!!!

There's no 'forgetting' to fit the foam baffles at the factory. LR are actively building vehicles with this problem because the fix is too manual for the production line. They know that every L405 and L494 that leaves the factory has this problem. It is worse with the 80L tank AFAIK.

I have this on my 13 plate, dealer said it was a problem.on early ones and the fix is the baffles that newer ones get from the factory, yeah right lol

I can't believe they haven't addressed it.

I've read the notes for the fitting of the baffles by the dealer and don't fancy letting them do it on my brand new RR.

I may just leave it as is.

No very reassuring though.

They also don't tell you it reduces the capacity of your fuel tank.
