United Kingdom 2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Oslo Blue

DT277 - you have to be aware that your heart can easily rule your head when looking at these cars - I get the feeling you want to press on with this purchase - almost willing it to be right for you.

How many have you viewed - I really think you need to take your time and view quite a few instead of almost forcing this one to meet your expectations.

Also remember the For Sale section has enthusiast owned/cared for vehicles from time to time.

What price is this car being offered for that seems to make it so attractive to you? How handy are you with a spanner or would it mainly be serviced at a garage - this can help judge if it is right for you. Howard

Thanks guys.

This particular RR attracts me because its had a facelift front and rear and some internal upgrades which is important to me. Plus its just down the road.

I know most 10 year old cars will have issues so the problem with viewing too many is that if I like a few and have them checked I will have to pay for the checks and it is highly likely I will still have a list of faults to sort.

As these faults aren't showstoppers I think its easier to see what sort of repair bill we're talking and make a final decision on that. I'm not hell bent on a pretty car at the expense of its faults, but not naïve enough to think there are loads faultless 10 year old RRs out there. Not all RR owners are forum members and look after them meticulously. And even the best examples could clap out a week after buying having been looked after for years. luck of the draw.

I've also asked local RR specialists to have a look at the list and give me a rough idea but its always good to compare that to people whose opinion is not vested in a hefty bill!

Hope that explains my logic!

to me, from experience, you just need to know that the timing chain and is not an issue, and that's why he is selling etc. ie ratttling at idle. if you listen to the engines at the end of this, you should hear what an engine should sound like.(and not!) (the one at the beginning is very obviously horrendous...) other than this, its all easy fixes. yes, its same engine as bmw 7 series, and early bmw x5, (and similar to x5 4.6)

what is the gearbox history? had it replaced? bills?

p.s. high milage on these engines is not an issue, as long as regular oil changes. mine is coming up 160k.

also, mine is running on lpg. (56p a litre) you can easily find these cars running lpg, and it saves you a hell of a lot of money.
as they are not any dearer to buy when already fitted etc.
you are into another area of discussion, with lpg, but just showing you possibilties.

Just an update on this, the car has been with a good local garage all weekend, engine cleaned, inspected, driven, re-inspected, issues judged to be very minor can be sorted at small cost and/or lived with. Reassuring.

What would people on here pay for it? As a reminder, 2004 petrol vogue, 109k miles, good front and rear facelift with exhaust tips and spoiler. Inside updated with new steering wheel and piano black parts, looks nice. All new tyres and good service history.

it's difficult without pictures, sounds like it's tastefully 'modified' in that its not got say bling and chrome etc. sounds like original look, but updated. you could do no worse, than using autotrader to see similar ones, and reckon, that that facelift, would easily have cost £1000 plus a few extras like black parts. (often the majority of facelift parts are secondhand) perhaps it has later wheels too. these parts fitted, are not going to make it worth £1000+ more, but a bit more... and the milage is well in keeping with normal driving. search ebay motors, look at their pictures... and autotrader, again with pictures, and compare mileage etc.
sounds like a private sale... in autotrader you can specify trade or private ads. (using search parmeters)
also, some 'towns' have many more rangies available, and some counrtyside areas dont. that can affect prices too. You could pay anything from 5.5k up to 9.5k depending on private, trade/warranty. mileage, mods...autobiography models are at top of pile. they come with personolised colours, and trim, often oppulent.
we love pictures.... you can post them, -you might need to read up about publishing them, but you just choose pics from your pc, (choose photos' and 'upload' them, then you click on that thumbnail, then a link appers in the text window, at the cursor.. and it will then show as a picture when submitted.

i cant seem to do it on an ipad...

Thanks John and others!

I spoke to a local indie about the report and the garage which the seller took the car to over the weekend and to cut a long story short bought it with a discount.

Already planning to upgrade the head unit so any sparkies on here who'd like the job keep an eye out!

nice...
there is a topic something like 'introducing or welcome to forum' or something, people post detail of their car, and they often update the model in their profile, so that you can hover over the tiny pic of you car, and see what model it is regarding questions etc. and there is a longish thread about updating the head unit. you might want to read through. here. http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic27033....droid+head

welcome to premiership motoring. Razz
