England to Portugal in a FF

Hi everyone, my wife and i have a holiday home in Sao Jao (algarve) about 30 mins from Faro and after buying my first FF a few months ago have been thinking about stretching the FF's legs and heading from southampton to Bilbao on the ferry followed by a leisurely cruise through spain or down the Portuguese coast. We usually fly from Hurn international to Faro courtesy of Ryanair and pick up a rental which gets us door to door in three and a half hours but like i said really fancy doing the trip in the FF.

So has anyone done the uk to Portugal trip or similar and if so any advice for me going in? This will be the first time attempting a journey of this distance by car.

Writing this poolside at Balaia Golf Village (our rental is a mitsubishi colt eco asthmatic ) and this trip not long enough for the FF road trip.

many thanks mark Thumbs Up

Marty. FFRRs are born to do that sort of journey. It will be a doddle.

I take mine to Bordeaux and back 4 times a year and also on a ski trip - all are 750 miles each way - as already said, you have the perfect car for it Thumbs Up

Get European breakdown cover and tell your insurance company.

Then just whatever kit you don't have - fluorescent jackets, triangle, first aid kit, fire extinguisher etc.

Not done Spain, but in France you have to carry all your documents, V5, insurance etc.

Did the run a few years ago with Brittany ferries to Santander - across the north and down the west coasts of Portugal. No problems whatsoever. Great driving. Drove to costa deal sol this year, love driving holidays especially with automatic cruise control.

Thanks for the positive response and advice re documentation required and of course the comprehensive breakdown cover Laughing

@Roystonh, i was looking at Brittany ferries to either Bilbao or Santander, did you choose specifically or picked the cheapest return?

I've taken mine to Sicily and back twice. I had full comprehensive breakdown and warranty cover as well. Your RR is the perfect car to take you to Portugal. It deserves the trip to the sun Thumbs Up

If you bring your car here, do take the time, and instead of going just to the beach, turn to the hills (north) and go explore some very good scenery and landscape. That's were the RR is in its element.

When I were a teenager me and a couple of mates drove down to the Algarve in an Austin Metro. A Rangie would have been a lot more comfortable.

@dand lol that sounds epic, my first car was an almost new 90 ford orion and it would never have made it even with the escort turbo alloys and cut springs Rolling with laughter If you have a pick of that journey please post it Bow down
