I haven't really looked at the Blackvue - the car is in France & will be repatriated next week.

I have the card & it looks like it stopped working on 6 Aug - there are no real clues other than the last recording. It has been ages since I last formatted it though.

I'm not sure if there's a problem with the unit itself or the card & will do some more investigating once I get the car back. I'm not happy as it sounds dodgy when talking to the insurance company that I have declared a dash cam, but it wasn't recording at the time. I've kept the SD card in case they want to inspect that.

I guess that's the flip side of mounting the unit out of sight behind the mirror - you don't notice the lack of lights on it when it should be operating

I too thought it was an install and forget camera, but it appears not, more so now having read your experience.

I updated my firmware the other week which wasn't that difficult.

The formatting isn't mentioned in the documentation that come with the unit, I found it on their website under the Q&A section - http://www.blackvue.com/en/contents/sub4_4.asp
