Another trans fail safe question..

Hi, I have recently been getting the trans fail safe message come up within the first few miles of driving the car. The car goes into limp mode and then have to pull over and switch off.

However I have now found if I push the stick over to the left and change up the gears myself then the error does t come on and the car drives fine. I have driven it like this over the last week and the message hasn't appeared.

Does anyone know what the problem could be and what I should look at?

Thanks.

Could be the selector switch on the side of the box I think there is something in the wiki about it or do a search which should bring loads up about it

Access is easy, getting them off a bit of a faf... pretty sure they are sealed units, they are rather expensive though, many hundreds... eBay is probably a good idea... you need to get it confirmed it is faulty first, needs some diagnostics... Pete

Hi guys. Just to point out that if JPS has a TD6 then unfortunately the inhibitor switch is inside the sump rather than bolted to the outside of the casing

I think this is unlikely to be the cause of your problem so, as Pete says, you really need to see if there’s any error codes stored next.
