Suspension problem

Hi Folks,

Look what happened on my way home from holidays to catch a ferry earlier this week,

The picture was taken in Holyhead after a very slow journey up from J12 on the M5. An old boy in the car park even came over to admire the car and commented how well it looked with the lowered suspension. Talk about rubbing salt in the wound.

A big thanks to Cam Tech Craig, Peter and John for taking my calls and all the sound advice received, thanks also to Tim and his technicians at Stratstone LR. Thumbs Up

The car is now back home in Ireland and scheduled to have the front nearside air suspension strut replaced hopefully it will be back on the road soon.

The faults that came up on the dash when all went wrong are,

Suspension Fault
Suspension will lift when system cooled
Check side light
Reduce speed to 50kmph suspension lowering (or something like that)

Really not good practice to change just one strut, for a start the other won't be far behind, also the shock absorber is integral and it's not wise to have a new one one side and an old one the other.... Pete

I suppose the Suspension will lift when cooled message is just because there is a leak and the compressor has been working flat out trying to compensate until the thermal cut out shut it down.

Reduce speed is just because it's sitting on it's bump stops - computer doesn't know why.

Both a result of the 'suspension fault' which from what you've said is the punctured air bag.

I suppose the side light is just a coincidence, a bulb's gone at the same time?

Seems fairly typical of a major fault being flagged up by an ECU, see it on a lot of different cars, the ecu will list a whole load of things as faults, it's a question of picking the one that caused them. Like if you have an air temperature sensor fail, it'll often bring up a fault for that as well as a lambda sensor fault as the mixture will be way out of spec. So you get people who change both sensors and say they fixed it, when all it needed was an air temp sensor to correct the mixture.

Anyway glad you on the way to getting it sorted.
