Help with Sanef Tag please

So, as many of you will know I'm driving down through France this week. We have had NO issues with the TAG up until tonight on the road into chamonix the A40. And the last two tolls have not recognised the TAG!!! VERY embarrassing reversing out of the 30kph lane holding up 10's of motorists!
So, my wife thinks this is due to being on the road to Mont Blanc! I Suspect there is an issue! Any help please guys? Bow down
I have sent them an email but wanted to ask the FF font of knowledge... Bow down

Tricky. Do you have it mounted on the bracket?

Earlier in the year I used mine in a hire car, just holding it up to the windscreen. It was, err, variable. I had a couple of reversing out incidents too. Partly it was because I'm not sure I was holding the right way round (whoops) but sometimes it took a long time to register even when I was. I put it down to be temperamental when it came to positioning. If you're using the bracket though, no idea.

You sure you're not coming in a little too hot, and not giving it time to register? Range Rover 4.2 SC

Hi Craig, I think it has to do with the fact you try to pass through the toll at +150mph. 30 is a max speed, not a minimum !!

Mont Blanc may be a different system, it is not totally standardized nationwide.

Or somehow, it doesn't see it through the windscreen, l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Have driven in the Alps with mine though around albertville and bourg St maurice, no problems, as said is it mounted right, by the rear mirror?

The other question is how old is your tag. They have an limited battery life. If it isn't working there are stops after some of the payages which have a tag shop, if the battery has failed or
Your tag is faulty then they should be able to swap it, though as said whether a non sanef area will exchange a sanef tag ?? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I worry about that every year, but normally relax after the first beep

As above, if it's in the right place - and there's an orange t symbol, then it must be the battery - bloody unlucky for it to die mid journey though

If the battery has died you can still go through the manned toll booths. They take the details - number etc - from the tag and you pass through. They have all the information on the system covering you no matter which company has issued the tag.

You could ask them at the same time to check if the battery has gone by swiping the tag. They have the ability to do that.

If it happened on the Mont Blanc Tunnel system then that would account for the refusal as, as you know, the Tunnel is not in the system.

Craig don't be embarassed. If it's a battery failure people are used to it. It happened to me on a very busy Friday afternoon on the southern end of the motorway before going into Spain. The truck driver behind sat patiently whilst I used the intercom to pass the details of the tag. Couldn't back up as he was right behind me with a string of vehicles behind him. Thumbs Up John

I am 50/50 as to weather the area is covered but above someone mentioned the Orange T on the tag structure /drive through which I'm sure it had on both the last tolls...
The tag is under a week old! So battery I assume must be good?!?
And finally, the tag has worked on every toll station between Calais and the Alps area... Bleeping every time.
I will try and find an office next to a toll booth to ask...
Thanks for all your help and advice chaps... Bow down Thumbs Up

Only place I had an issue was heading out of Calais, after a quick chat with the toll booth folks there - they said it was normal for it to take time for the tag to register itself.

Just put a call into a colleague in Paris who uses his daily, he says that usually it's the location of mounting though he did say his tag didn't like the heated front screen being on and he'd had a dead battery too. Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

If you go through a manned tollbooth with the orange T then they will tell you if there is problem with your tag or not. Will save you searching for an office if it is OK.

If it is that recent a tag I doubt it is the battery as they normally last for several years. John

Exactly my thoughts! But the car has NO heated screen! And has NOT been moved since Calais! Strange...
Thank you for checking with your friend Nick Bow down

Tag worked perfectly all the way to our destination! Don't figure... I can only assume the two tolls on route to chamonix are classed as Mont Blanc approach???
Thanks for all your help guys... I'll report back on how it works going home next week Thumbs Up

The Mont Blanc Tunnel péage is at the entrance to the tunnel and the approach road (a spur from RN205) is toll free. Seems strange that your "badge" wasn't recognised. Just a blip?

If you had been in an FFRR you could have put it down to one of its usual ideosyncrasies . Very Happy Very Happy John
