Bloody hell, what a job! I pulled the dash to pieces in bright but sub-zero temperatures yesterday and what a sod it was. Lots of semi-hidden torx screws which was made worse after a while as I lost most of the feeling in my fingers! I've fitted all the dash wood parts now but in the process have lost illumination to the steering wheel controls. They all function normally but don't illuminate with the lights anymore so not sure what I've done, in fact I can't remember if they ever did have lights but I think they did.

That's the risk, breaking the clips. You need to use something that resenbles a wide flat screwdriver made of something that won't scratch and just prise it away from the door, then you'll begin to see where the clips are.
