I got a visit from a woman that lives a couple of miles from us the other day telling me that her grandson had bought an old Land Rover when he passed his driving test a few years ago and hasn't touched it since.

Apparently he's been told that it needed to be moved and told them to call the scrap man in to get rid of it. She popped in and let me know as she's seen my Forward Controls and wondered if it was of interest to me.

I popped up today and had a nosey and have now got myself another project.

It's a 1984 Series 3 SWB 2.25 Diesel.

I'm going to pop back up during the week to help him get it out and I'll bring it home on the trailer. From the top it looks to be a fairly solid base. I couldn't get underneath it to look at it properly so I'll stick it up on the ramp and get a proper look at it when I get it home. The drivers front window is missing so the seat has been soaked and is ruined so it'll need a window straight away to get it water tight.

I've got a Rover 3.5 V8 sitting in the workshop with a set of carbs on it so I'm tempted to take the old Diesel out and stick the V8 in it but we'll see how rotten the chassis is first.

One of the last of the Series III's. Worth preserving, in my opinion.

The diesel donk wasn't great even when new, other than having a reputation as a wonderful old slogger.

The V8 will liven it up nicely. I'd keep the diesel just in case someone further down the line wishes to preserve its originality. Si. <This is my name.

Going to get it running in the morning as it's not stopped raining since I arrived home with it.

When he found out I was going to restore it rather then break it for spares and sell the parts he told me to call it a crate of beer

The tiltbed is a fantastic bit of kit, isn't it!

I wouldn't be without one now. We've got the sides for it as well so it's great for all things from moving cars to tip runs
