Heating, again

Gents,

I seem to remember reading something about this but I can't find it again...

Couple of observations about the heating.

1. It's not very strong to the feet.
2. My heater seems luke warm all the way around to 27 degs.....then red hot when i click it to the max 28.

Anyone else ?

Could be a temperature control valve issue, does the cooling work ok?

could it be the Final Stage Resistor / Blower, relatively cheap, easily and fulfilling fix if it is Thumbs Up

I have an odd one. Sometimes the heating comes on roasting hot, ignoring whatever temp is set on the dial. It needs the car turned off and on (or I think turning the whole system off works too). Then it works normally.

I had the same issue.

Mine has now almost definitely gone - no fan.

If the fan works ok but no heat to the feet (which for me is really necessary), could that be the final stage resistor? I just thought that just controlled the fan not direction?

Or do I have a final stage resistor problem AND maybe chris mc's temperature control valve issue as well?

I'm all for easy an satisfyiing. In fact, the easier and more satisfying something is, the more I am for it. Rolling with laughter

Oddly thought, the cooling is pretty even all the way down to frosty, but otherwise your diagnosis fits the bits.

Any thoughts on the footwell ? Is there less oomph there ?

JJ

Ok, my symptoms were no air to the feet. Subsequently the fan stopped working all together.

I've just replaced the FSR (which is a really annoying fiddly job, but thankfully cheap), and now the fan is working fine, but still no air to the feet.

I don't have great circulation and suffer from cold feet, so this is a big problem for me. Anyone fixed this problem on theirs before I delve more deeply?

The FSR only controls the blower speed and has nothing to do with air distribution.

This is from RAVE and may be of interest:

None of the stepper motors incorporate a feedback potentiometer. Instead, the ATC ECU determines the positions ofthe flaps by using either their closed or open position as a datum and memorising the steps that it drives the individualstepper motors. Each time the ignition is switched on, the ATC ECU checks the memorised position of the steppermotors against fixed values for the current system configuration. If there is an error (e.g. after a power supply failure during operation or after replacement of the ATC ECU), the ATC ECU calibrates the applicable stepper motors, to re-establishthe datums, by driving them fully closed or open before re-setting them to their nominal position. A calibration run can also be invoked using TestBook/T4.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes?

I'm not sure what's involved with replacing these, it was a pig of a job in the P38 and I can't imagine it's going to be any easier in the L322, although I'm often suprised at the ease of some tasks. I would look for a colplete heater unit out of a breaker rather than trying to replace odd components

Thanks Dan, I shall give it a go. Would rather not have to replace the HEVAC system - if that's what it is.

Maybe if it involves that I'll use the heated insoles I have for my motorcycle.

Hi guys, my blower has stopped working in the front, but the rear is fine!!!. Could it be a FSR or something more sinister??

FSR most likely and the first thing to try.

Last time I did the FSR I swapped them over, put everything back together, only to realise I hadn't swapped them at all. I'd taken the old one out and put the old one back in because they looked the same.

Needless to say this made me unhappy.
