Dead td6 gearbox

So my £3900 td6 shat its second gearbox a few days ago, first changed at 100k, this ones gone at 158k.

Only had it 3 months

Managed about 8k miles in that time.

Had changed the gearbox oil, did 1k miles, changed it again (as you cant change it all in 1 go)

Then drove a 1175 mile round trip to norfolk and back with a trailer, with a defender on it on the way back.
Was happy the whole way, pulled off the a9 down a single track lane and it kicked down to second when i slowed. Trans fail safe, pulled over turned it off. Turned it back on, wont go into gear when selecting drive. Will still reverse though, even with the 3ton behind it.

Oil cooler felt toasty and under bonnet smelt "hot"

Presume this is a cooked box. Looking for a cheap and cheerful replacement box with a 1 year 12k miles warranty if this is possible?

Going to just replace it then sell up and finance a newer tdv8 as im doing a lot more towing than i had planned at first.

So long story short - best place to get a cheap refurbed box?

@slow, perhaps the oilcooler wasn´t changed also, that is neccessary when you repair the gearbox, flushing is not enough, because there are always litle metalparts, which dont go out at flushing, and after 20k miles, the game began from new. know this very well. Buy only a used one from a crash car, and change oil + filter + cooler soon. Best wishes, uli L405 SDV8 2017 + Lancia Flavia Coupe 1964 + RRS L494 3.0 SDV6 + C220CDI Convertible 2021

Does changing the oil cooler advice apply to all models receiving a new transmission? ______________________________

It certainly is a sensible thing to do, to ensure the cooler is doing its job - i.e. not clogged up which might have caused the problem in the first place, and also that no foreign matter from the old box makes its way into the new one.

If confident it is clean and clear, you may not need to do it. .
