Am I Being Unreasonable?

Apologies for double posting this from a separate thread, but I'm keen to gain the benefit of others' views on this.

I have a deposit down on a low mileage Westminster, but declined to complete when I went to see the car, because there was some damage to the door card - probably caused by a trailing seatbelt buckle being caught in the driver's door. There was also a tiny ding in the front passenger door skin. Update is is that the dealer has now contacted me to say that the door card has been repaired and they assure me that it is a perfect, invisible repair. I guess I'll have to be the judge of that when I see it. However, they've also told me that there's nothing they can do with the ding in the front passenger door panel. That leads me to ask a question on which I would welcome all opinions....

Am I being unreasonable?

The ding in the door is tiny - probably no bigger than a finger nail sized mark. However you can clearly see the indent in the panel and my eyes will always be drawn to it. There's a bit of paint taken out as well, but remember this is, again, very small. The dealers are telling me that they don't think they can fix it, which of course translates into it not being something they want to pay to have fixed. It can of course be done, but they suggest that a ding like this is something one should expect on a 30 month old car. My counter to that is that the car has done such low mileage (under 10k) that it's not perhaps that unreasonable to expect the bodywork to be pretty much perfect. At the end of the day, I'll otherwise have to pay to have this put right and that doesn't seem within the spirit of the LR Approved Used promise.

So, am I being unreasonable? The car otherwise appears to be in very good nick and I imagine a SMART/PDR repair specialist could sort it for me for not a huge cost...

It is second hand after all, but if your not happy don't buy it.

I have needed a new door card since i brought mine, bloke wouldn't change it but I still brought the car.

Steve You remind me of a young me, not much younger mind, perhaps even a little older!

Taking the 'reasonable / unreasonable' question to one side for a moment, would the dealer be amenable to having your chosen SMART /PDR repairer take a look and provide a price? If that price is reasonable enough for you to prove your point about the repair then the dealer has an option to go ahead with your blessing (it may not be their preferred method but it's your request and hence your responsibility and, if the repairer is engaged, then you buy the car regardless) or possibly come down on price to enable you to have the repair done 'at your cost'.

Seems to me that if this is the only issue clouding a purchase decision then the resolution should be a fairly easy one for both parties. Si. <This is my name.
