Sounds if it could be belt, idler or pulley related? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks NMJ but with belts, pulleys etc would the ticking be audible all of the time and change tempo with revs (or at least return when the engine gets back to idle after a journey)? 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

Vanos rattle is on the petrol 4.4 V8 yours hasn't got one so it's not that... can't really help with what it is though... sorry Pete

I would tend to agree with you, but a rhythmic ticking sounds rotational so it's probably a good place to start. My top idler pulley had a failed bearing in it, with the engine off and a bit of wriggling you can get a hand on it and see if it has any play in it. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Top idler pulley’s are a problem on the 4.4 TDV8... Do a few of them |
