Reminds me of a time (nothing as bad as that!) I had to change a front propshaft on a Sierra XR4x4, I'd got the car up on ramps at the front, the two UJ's were badly worn so they came out from the transfer box and the front diff OK, but I didnt have enough space to get the new propshaft in, so what do I do? Decide it would be a good idea to remove the anti-roll bar, of course, the bolts holding the AR bar shot out and the whole car slid backwards about 6 inches on the now free to move front McPherson struts!!

Just proves that a little mechanical knowledge can be a dangerous thing. Although,having said that,how he forgot to re-chock the wheels is a bit of a mystery to me. FFS, LR even supply a chock with the vehicle. One lucky bloke to survive that kind of incident. |

Having known someone who was killed by a car dropping on him due to jack failure, the Discovery owner is a very lucky man to have survived albeit with not insignificant injuries.

He was a very lucky man but I am sure we all think oh it will be ok it will only take me two ticks to do it but it just shows that they could be your last The worst thing about being retired is you miss out on all the bank holidays |

I seem to remember that he old RR Classic and p38, had a gearbox handbrake, so removing a wheel had the effect allowing the diff to freewheel and the car to roll away, on the jack. As soon as the wheel lifts off the ground. I could also roll down an icy road, with only one wheel on ice. |

The older Range Rovers, discoveries and Defenders all had the big brake drum on the rear propshaft.
