I have noticed that the onboard mpg constant display has gone from its usual 17mpg reading to 14mpg, then 10mpg followed by 6.9 to 4 today. It seems to be getting progressively worse over the last three days. I assume i should take the trip computers reading with a large grain of salt . However the car seemed very unresponsive today with regards of acceleration ( 2005 ajv8 4.4), i had to use the accelerator as opposed to the normal waft of power and also when coming off power its stops quick as if a brake is on.

It has just had new pads front and rear and a fresh mot. I have also noticed if put into drive and allowed to creep forward, pulling the handbrake only dips one side of the rear end.

I hope its only a seized caliper? Does the handbrake operate an internal drum type brake on the inside of the disc?

Any advice most appreciated

something wrong with the brakes..any heat from them after a run? ... - .- -.

My money is on the ROS caliper - both my previous 06 MY FF's had it. The second (a petrol . . .), on a drive from Portsmouth to Derbyshire through the night. Average ? 9mpg

Hi Stan, the last few days have only done a 2 mile run each day and no heat in any of the discs or abnormal brake dust on wheels. I am worried that a long run could end up frying discs/pads/caliper seals/calipers or worse putting undue strees on the engine.

It might be worth noting that the car has just had a recon box from grays transmissions and a new tc. Hopefully nothing wrong with these items and no dash warnings have come up.

if you can jack up each wheel and see if you can turn it easily, make sure its in neutral with engine off. ... - .- -.

Will jack it up in the morning but will have to use my trolley jack as the handle snapped on the LR one last week when the new wheels went on

Tug RR Took the word's out my mouth. I felt some heat coming from the ROS disc earlier this week so decided it was time to get the new callipers built up and fitted. Done both sides to be safe. Handy that having a shelf full of goodies from previous owner need to get the new handles fitted soon

Unsure of RAC warranties etc. Also check for excessive brake dust on the rear wheels. Have now used two full tanks of fuel, sadly the consumption is putting me at 10.9 mpg. If not mentioned before all levels (enginge) are fine with no untoward smoke/overheating etc. It takes about 10 mins or so to get to temperature with the gauge dead level pointing to the sky. I also put it into my local indy to check for binding of brakes as suggested and they reported free running on all corners. The only change to the car since purchase on the drive train side is the larger wheels, but to drop 7 mpg from normal on eagle f1's seems daft to me.

Thinking of putting it into my local MD as with only 80k on the clock and a new box it should return decent mpg

If it's just had new brake pads front and rear, then you would think who ever fitted them would have noticed a seized caliper?

The handbrake has internal shoes i think, if one of those is dragging it would do it.

Are the tyre pressures correct? I noticed mine is very sensitive to a tyre being slightly down.

I reckon MAF. It will over fuel to compensate and will show EML for rich running. Hence lower MPG.

Hi, thanks for the replies guy's. I have not checked the tyre pressures but will in the morning. It is not showing any faults on the speedo binacle, what does EML stand for and do i need to take it to my MD for a diagnosis of this possible maf problem on their fault reader?

EML = Engine malfunction lamp.
