Really weird one!!

Hi chaps!
Got a really weird one here! 2003 L322 V8 Petrol, car is locked, parked up, nobody near the car, for some reason the hazard lights start going off! No alarm or anything, all windows closed.
Can only be switched off by unlocking and locking the car with the fob, then its OK.

Any ideas???????

Could be similar to this Paul...

When my BECM got wet it did all sorts of funny things to the lights... indicators, hazards, brake lights etc Pete

Could be damp related as we've got a big crack in the windscreen at the bottom and we are getting water drips behind the brake pedal and dampness on the drivers side A pillar.
Autoglass fitting a new screen in a week or two.

Has anything changed in the 433MHz radio frequency, like a new wireless house alarm, weather station, remote control toys etc?

On the early model RR's the receiver for the alarm had a very wide "bandwidth" and so woke up every time it perceived a single that it thought was for it. This also woke up all the other computers (BeCM included) causing lights to flash and batteries to flatten.

Somewhere there is a TSB on it, but for the life of me, I cant find it!

Paul, I had a similar issue a month or so ago. Hazards and brake lights came on randomly, it had been parked facing downhill during a rainy period. Returned it to its normal uphill parking and no issues since despite the rain. Something to do with dampness in the BCM? Thumbs Up

Could well be that as its only been doing it since we've had the water ingress.
I've bought a waterproof car hood today (no doubt the sun will be scorching from now on!) and will see if the new windscreen solves the problem.

If it is water on the BECM then you really need to get it out and clean it properly, the salts and impurities in "normal" water are what causes damage, if they are left to dry on their own they will sit and rot the board over a period of time. Pete

Thinking about it, the LCM is on the drivers side "A" pillar, at the bottom behind the bonnet pull panel, maybe worth stripping that all out and cleaning it up... Pete

Thanks, I'll have a look at that, it would make more sense to be the LCM as that is where most of the damp is collecting.

Good luck, as said above if you end up with a soggy ECU, grab a can of contact cleaner from CPC or similar for a couple of founds to ensure all the deposits etc are gone.

Some use WD etc but I think given the cost of a new ECU vs the spray it's the best option. Good luck, I hope it's a cheap fix for you! Thumbs Up
