Checking turbo to intercooler hose...

Hi all

As my car has developed a loud turbo whistle at around 2,000rpm and all articles pointing to spilt hoses, I thought I'd check mine.
Couple of questions
1) the hose from the turbo to the intercooler is very flexible. Is it supposed to be? I took it off the turbo and it's easily folded and not stiff.
2) I can't get the hose off the intercooler inlet. There is another fitting mounted on the intercooler inlet held on with a wire circlip. This fitting is loose and I'm unsure whether it's supposed to be. I would say no as surely this is creating an air gap. What's it's purpose and Is it meant to come off with the circlip removed?

If anyone can help, I'd be grateful.

Soft hose isn't a problem, you might be able to squash it, but it's only designed not to expand too much under pressure.

The loose fitting sounds like it's your problem to me.

Well the circlip turned out to be half one and rusty. I can wobble the aluminium fitting around on the inlet stub with what's left of the circlip still attached. I pulled it off and I can see how it works now. There's a seal in the tube so I'm just wondering if that's a replaceable part?
The hose has oil in it, but just a film coating the inside as opposed to dripping everywhere.

I've just removed and checked all hoses and they seem ok. No splits or tears anywhere that I can see.

Problem is still there. It feels underpowered pulling away and only gets going when the turbo spins up.

I ran it with the IID tool and got the following

At idle on the driveway - 94Kpa give or take
On the move/under load- up to 140Kpa.

Are these readings normal?

(Speaking about cars generally) most cars have an O ring seal where an ally bit of the boost system pushed onto another bit. If the clip breaks/rust so the fitting becomes loose it moves about and wears the O-ring. If you fit a new clip so it's solid it'll still leak as the seal is worn.

The oil film is nothing much to worry about, it'll just be oil vapour from the crank case ventilation, oil separators catch most of it and let it drip back into the system, but some always gets through, so long as it's just a thin film and not dripping out of the pipes it's not abnormal.
