After having a new gearbox fitted last September, the transfer box has now decided to apperently throw ithe towel. This after noon I pulled away frrom my parents house onto an A road (not too sharpish!!). After about 20 yards I heard a small bump, as of driving over a cat-eye and suddenly lost. drive. SELECT NEUTRAL flashed up on the dash followed by the Hi/Lo light flashing. Stopped straight away, switched off, back on again, selected D and the two warnings came back. Tried fooling it with fuse 37, seemed to reset but warnings came back when nengaging D. Switched off again, started, no warnings! Flicked Lo lever and LOW ENGAGED appeared with yellow LO light on constantly as it should. Flicked it again and HIGH ENGAGED appeared. Both engagements, I heard a light click/clunk which it has always done in the past. Feeling lucky I selected D and waited to drive away, only to get SELECT NEUTRAL and flashing LO light. Its now been recovered to local garage. Any ideas chaps? Terry. |

Update: No problem with transfer box - Snapped a front driveshaft. So Ive decided the following: You cant do F1 style starts in a FF!! |

Blimey.... Very unusual to snap a shaft with an automatic, the TC usually takes the brunt and smooths out the forces required to break a shaft...

Don't know yet if it a CV joint yet. Did the same manoever a few months ago with half worn road tyres and heard a scrabble from the inside front wheel. Had Pirelli Scorpions fitted a month ago and are a bit more aggressive so I'm putting it down to that. And I'm no Lewis Hamilton when it comes to pulling away a bit sharpish!!! |

Got the car back this afternoon. Apparently inner joint had failed. Has anyone heard of this before? Terry. |
