HPI Check

I actually did a HPI check on my car yesterday, just to make sure everthing is in order, and to my surprise, it still has finance outstanding on it, but I forgot to ring dealer up today Embarassed Also, I just remember the dealer did not have me signing the logbook, but told me I should recieve my log book in a couple weeks, which I'm still waiting for Confused

Please tell me this is not unusual Confused

How old is the car , and if the Finance is not cleared on it well the Finance company can reposess the car , regardless to whether you bought it in good faith sounds to me the dealer has taken the car as a trade in and not cleared the outstanding monies owed on it ,

With him not giving you the logbook seems to me he is either trying to hold back on info about the car , or possibly the previous owners ,

Is it a reputable dealer or "Cracking Dave's Discount Drive" shops

The car is only 2yrs old and I bought it from Stafford LandRover dealership(Excellent so far Thumbs Up ), I did see the original logbook just to check it has only one owner and not an import, but I did not sign anything on it, he told me new logbook should be with me soon, but I'm still waiting Confused

Hope I'm not being paranoid Confused

Well it roughly takes 3 weeks for the v5 to come through ( longer with the xmas period now ) , and if it's an approved LR dealership i am very surprised that they have sold this vehicle on without checking out if there was any finance still on it , that would be my main concern.

It might be a clerical error on behalf of the Dealership , if you dont have any more information from them by say early Monday PM advise them you are putting the matter into the hands of your Lawyer and involving the Trading Standards Dept.

Well thats what i would do........... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Hopefully Kin it will as i say be a Clerical Error ............ Thumbs Up

Dealer would be in serious Censored if they have

I sell enough cars of my fleet and one of the first things I do before I even put it up for sale is to clear the finance

I'm not saying that the Dealer can't have made a mistake, but I'd be amazed if they did. Its part of their SOP to check the cars coming into the business.

I once PX'd a BMW 5 Series againsst an M5 and they said my car still had finance on it, however I'd done an HPI check. Someone had their wires crossed and my car WAS clear.

If it does still have money owing on it then the dealer is at fault, especially if they told you it was all clear.

Worry not, it'll all sort itself out one way or another Discovery 4 HSE

Well..thats what the HPI lady told me Confused It still has finance owing Sad
In more details, my car previously had a private plate on it, and the finance is against that particular plate, Not that it makes any difference tho, my car still owes finance !!!

Anyhow...thanks for the advice and reasurances, my original intentions was to check whether the car had any recorded accident damage, the last thing I'd have thought of was finance still outstanding on it Shocked

Normally, I would not be too worry about it as I know this is a main dealer, and not some backstreet garage..but with so many dealers closing down, I'm thinking they might do a runner with my money Big Cry

Can they do that?

To elaborat further, so that eveyone is clear.

The car was first registered with the private plate, and took out finance at the same time, current normal 56plate was transfered back on about 2mths ago . HPI show that the private plate finance has still not been settled. So the car still owes money!

Sorry Kin dont do Comforting -- only Reality.,,,,,,,,,,,,, Whistle

But is it the vehicle that still has Finance on it OR as you said the PRIVATE REGISTRATION as some people take them out on finance as they can be quite costly ...........and if it is the PRIVATE PLATE Thumbs Up then you have nothing to worry about ..........

Lets hope your right Confused

Heres the HPI summary report:

Interest registered against the previous plate, VRM currently recorded as having outstanding finance.

An outstanding finance agreement was recorded on xx/xx/2006 against a LandRover RangeRover

Then it say...
DV56---(my current plate) was applied to this vehicle on xx/xx/2008, there are no interests recorded against DV56---

So I dont know what to make of it Confused

It's a strange one Kin being against a plate and a car , and not having the V5 , Hope to God there's not a ringer out there , really shocked about the way this Dealership has handled this .
