I have a 2006 Range Rover and I did an overhaul of my suspension system. I installed a new AMK compressor with relay, 2 Height sensors (front), 2 Struts/bags and 2 stabilizer bars. I got stuck doing rust repair/battery replacement/passive start/window regulator so the project took a little than expected. I remembered reading on here that you must not lower the car until you fill the bags up with air. Do you need to have the tires on to test the bags? I don't notice a considerable difference in the bag size when I squeeze them.

Also, the compressor at start is REALLY loud. I hear a hissing sound and feel some cold air by the black and black fittings on the right hand hand side. I also received a warning on the dash that the car will lower when the system cools down. I've never seen that message before. I will say the compressor is pretty hot to the touch.

Do I need to tighten the fittings? Can I break something if I tighten them too much? What other troubleshooting should I do? Lastly I purchased the IID Tool, can this help?

You should have disabled the system with the IID tool before you changed the bags, you then re-enable it. You have to have it on the ground to fill it with air, if it senses that it's got it's wheels off the floor it won't do anything, you can lower it until the wheels are at about the right height and then refill it....

You shouldn't feel any air leaks around the compressor unless it is letting air out of the system, the fittings are metal/plastic and have a low torque figure for tightening so don't go too mad, maybe better removing the fitting and check it is OK? do not remove the metal fitting from the ends of the pipes as it can damage the pipe and cause leaks. I think the pump fittings are all pushfit though, there should be a white ring on the pipe that shows when it is pushed in enough...

The loud sound could be because it is pumping to a leak, it needs a bit of back pressure to slow them down a bit...

Read the manual for the IID tool, there are lots of things you can check, including the temp of the compressor and the pressure in the air tank.. Pete

Thanks Pete! I will tighten and review the IID tool. Will the bags be noticeably filled with air?

If they have air in them they will be virtually solid, very difficult to flex them with your thumb... Pete

So I reflashed the AMK ecu last night (using IID tool), started the truck tonight and the compressor is not starting. Do I need to do something similar to a hard reboot of a computer?

It should just work, check the plug is properly home, then check if it has power to it, start the car, press the suspension up button, this should turn the pump on, then check if it has power to it on the thick red/white wire, if no power then it could be fuse 18 in the boot, 50amp or the relay that lives there as well...


Also may need to re-enable the EAS with the IID... Pete

Thanks again; I will try these things tonight. I also research something about a hard restart of the battery. Fingers crossed!!

I rechecked everything and reflashed. No difference. I even tried the battery reset (I think.....). BUT I did notice my wife must have accidentally lowered the truck. I noticed my tires seem to be touching the floor. I know I've heard from many resources that the car should not be lowered prior to the bags being filled with air. Since my compressor is not working, my bags are not filled with air. Do you think lowering the Range caused a problem? I also checked fuse 18; no issue with the fuse.

Have you got all the doors shut when you wait for it to fill? The system is inhibited when doors are open to prevent the car moving as passengers are entering or exiting.

I think this includes the tailgate, so if you are standing at the back wondering why there is no life.....

It's only the doors, not either bit of the boot!! Pete
