Hi John, sorry to be the one giving you the bad news. The transponder chip has to be done by the OEM supplier of JLR, that's why you can only order the keys through the dealership with your VIN and papers (I had to do the same with the 4.2). This is to prevent theft with stolen keys of other cars I think.

But when you order them via a dealership parts dept, they come ready programmed to your car.

A new one can be programmed by other people apart from the dealer

In the post you can see that Daveo can program a certain range of transponders, the early ones. If your car just fits into that group (2005 by the looks of things is where the changeover happens), then you're OK but if you have a later 2005 version you may not. Anyway, just ask him |

Thanks for that. My car is a pre-face lift but touchscreen so in the middle band so I could be lucky or not!
