Hi All,

I've just bought a new original LR key with all of the electronics and had it cut and I've coded the key so that it unlocks / locks the FF. However, I can't find how to code the Transponder using my Faultmate. I've searched on the forum but drawn a blank as most replies appear to be PM'd for security. Can anyone assist please?

Hi John, sorry to be the one giving you the bad news. The transponder chip has to be done by the OEM supplier of JLR, that's why you can only order the keys through the dealership with your VIN and papers (I had to do the same with the 4.2). This is to prevent theft with stolen keys of other cars I think.

However, if you do have an old key of the car, that has it's transponder still (small black thingy inside the key), than you can just transfer it to the new key and it works again. (done that with a flip key).

Otherwise you may have to go to a dealer and convince them that they give you a new transponder chip without a key (unlikely I guess).

But when you order them via a dealership parts dept, they come ready programmed to your car.

So where did you get it if it was new and original?

A new one can be programmed by other people apart from the dealer

Daveo on here can do them but you will have to take the car to him, or remove the immobiliser ECU which is under the center console and send that.... Pete

I bought it when I was in Germany the other week but I wasn't in the FF at the time, hence not being programmed.

In the post you can see that Daveo can program a certain range of transponders, the early ones. If your car just fits into that group (2005 by the looks of things is where the changeover happens), then you're OK but if you have a later 2005 version you may not. Anyway, just ask him . MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Thanks for that. My car is a pre-face lift but touchscreen so in the middle band so I could be lucky or not!
