Been there done that got the badge twice. If it clips in ok, and securely, refit it and replace when the shops open on Monday.

Thanks for the replies. Have put everything back on and no brake warning light which would suggest the sensor has survived and is still working despite looking a wee bit tired and fragile. I'll get a new one although maybe can fit it another day

I had a tub of copper grease Stan and used that whilst waiiting to get the ceramic stuff. The whistling has stopped. The pads had obviously had some liberally applied copper grease on the backing before as there were gold circles from piston contacts... but no grease left anywhere. There's plenty on now though!

If you have alloy callipers, you shouldn't use copper based grease, apparently it will start electrolysis and rot your calliper... Pete
