Colour Coding Or Floating Roof ?

In November last year I purchased a 2008 Range Rover Vogue, in Cairns blue with parchment leather blue piping.

It is my first Range Rover and I have loved every minute when I am sitting behind the steering wheel - and yes, on a few occasions I have sat behind the steering wheel, not going anywhere as the battery has died !!!

Anyway, I have been slowly purchasing various bits to personalise my Range Rover. Firstly, I purchased a set of Westminster wheels, which I personally think are the best looking wheels you can buy.

I have also purchased a Hawke autobiography style front and side grill,Mirror covers and Door Handle covers and finally A post and E post trims which I want colour coded. As powerful do not have Mirror covers or door handles for the L322 in Cairns blue, I have to get these painted anyway and whilst I am having these sprayed I thought I might as well get the A and E posts sprayed.

I have two questions, which I know will come down to personal taste but wanted to get the general consensus:

1) Which do you think looks best, the full Mirror covers colour coded or the half Mirror covers colour coded?

2) How do you feel about colour coding the A & E posts or do you prefer the 'floating' roof ?

Would be good to hear your thoughts - thanks, Craig

The floating roof was a design highlight of the original Range Rover and I think body colour pillars kill the looks. It makes the RR look heavier.

I also favour black door mirrors for the same reason as they sit in the black area of the glass and pillars.

The above is just my own opinion. It's your RR, though, and if you wish to paint things body colour then go for it. Si. <This is my name.

Half coded mirrors, sa this is what was available on the latter models so looks more stock.

Leave the pillars alone, they look better black imho...... Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Mirrors - fine wither all black or half coded.

Pillars always look odd in anything other than black.

If you want to make it look different, consider painting the whole roof black - there was a photo of a red one on here recently & it looked stunning IMHO.

I can't find the picture, but here's an L405 to give you the general idea Thumbs Up

I wouldn't personally colour code the pillar trims. But i would think about painting them gloss black, so they polish up nicely.

Can't picture it in my mind. And images of a colour coded one? I can't see it would work but I am intrigued.

It would seem that the majority of you are in favour of the 'floating roof'.

As I have ano extra set of A&E posts, It think I will spray them anyway and then hold them up against the car and make my final decision.

It must be the Essex boy in me wanting everything colour coded !!! Decisions decisions !

Floating roof all day Thumbs Up There is a FFRR around my way that has chrome pillars.... I'd say it's an acquired taste....

Wing mirrors, gotta be colour coded or black, no tacky chrome covers..

yep, agree on ziconblues statement of gloss black pillars and floating roof.
And be careful with the chrome stuff on a blue vehicle.
It might transform the FFRR into a showman's car quite quickly, spoiling the distinctive understatement of the original design.
Pretty much like "they" did with the L405 and the funny fins and lower contrasting body pieces.
All mimikry if you ask me.

But as you said, personal choice after all.

Even though everyone appears to hate both colour coded pillars AND non black mirrors I like them so have a quick look at my photos in here, it might help you decide (probably not your colour but still.)

IF I was to go with black pillars then I'd do the full roof black as I think it looks a bit daft having colour/black/colour but that's just me Dan

My motor is Bonatti grey and has colour coded A+E pillars. We had had it about six months before either of us noticed, I don't know what that says about us or colour coding but I do think the colour of the vehicle would have quite an effect. 2010 3.6TDV8 Stornoway Grey/ Black interior - gone

My personal view but Pillars should always be the factory black to allow the floating roof concept/design to work. Thumbs Up
