Only looking to transport two bikes on the roof during a couple of summer breaks this year.

Anyone fitted these aftermarket copies? I'm assuming not OEM.

Expensive way to transport bikes (fuel economy will be even worse) and it will be long way to lift them up there! You won't get in many car parks either.

Have you thought about a tow bar carrier?

I use a tow bar carrier they are great.

Afraid I have to agree completely with axle on this one. Min deteriorated VERY quickly. They started to discolour, turning a motley grey within a few weeks of being exposed to the elements. The adjustment was clunky, and parts broke easily. I took mine off after a few months and discarded.

I have to say, they used one of my old cars as a demo to fit them (video) and although i don’t think i used the bars twice in two years They worked well the twice i used them and never discoloured from day one to sale day!

That said, Powerful fitted them! Maybe that was the difference?

Craig the bars in the video are much more like the OEM ones and adjust and locate in the same way , the problem is the chinese manufacturer has found half a dozen corners to cut since then
To save on metal the cross bars don't have enough adjustment to be placed anywhere other than the very ends , the locking mechanism is very crude and different to original so it jams in the cap at the end when you try to remove them , and the caps are very cheap and week so trying to remove the crossbars snaps the end caps off .
That and the crappy anodising that fades almost immediately meant mine had to come off , six effing holes there now to remind me of the whole bloody process  2008 MY Supercharged

Ahh, so the set they fitted to mine are slightly different to what is now sold mainstream?

I did however replace the end caps with factory ones as they were something like £1 or £2 each at that time and fitted better

Many thanks for the info chaps. Despite Craig's words they are now off the watch list. I could see how product development over time only means more profit and lower quality in this case.

(I'm assuming the product quality is not just a Aussie thing)

I'm towing a tin tent so a tow ball carrier is out and I'm not sure the hassle of a rear rack is worth it (not being able to open tail-gate). I had bars on my P38 so I know its a bit of a lift but the new bikes are ally not steel like our old ones so much easier to lift.

I think the price should really have told me everything.

I'll stick to OEM sports bars only without the rails.

Avoid the Chinese jobbers,I wasted £ on similar for a RRS, the quality was sh@t.
One needs to remind oneself that you only get what you pay for in this world.....
Frightened the bike would end up coming off on the road killing someone.
Read somewhere that they claim they are for decorative purposes only????????

+1 these are absolute pants, shocking quality and difficult to adjust, definately avoid. Have to say the £59 cycle rack from Halfords was great with the tin tent, but like you say access to boot is compromised.

I used Thule bars (recently sold) to carry bikes - I found them to be very good.

True if they're lightweight road bikes lifting isn't a problem still a long way up to secure them though. Where do you keep the step ladder?

Thule are probably the way to go they are very high quality well designed Scandinavian products. Who make the bars for Land Rover? Have you checked to see if Westfalia, Bosal or Thule make the same design?
