Netherlands 2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black
2002 L322 Java black - photos

Hi forum,

Wanting to introduce my new 2002 l322. I've got her since dec. 14 and am very - very pleased with her. Previous cars were Jags (xj6 and xj8). So this is something totally different. Had to get used to the seats which are, IMHO, a bit stiff compared to the Jags.

155.000 km when I bought her...

Already have the following changed/fixed:
- LHF air stud, replaced by a remanufactured Arnott's. Very pleased with it.
- Changed thermostat, wouldn't open on the highway causing one of the upper coolant hoses to pop off... Thought I caught a fire there...
- changed the orange side indicators to smoked glass
- Fixed passenger cup holder, wouldn't open... the fix was to remove the cupholder from the dashboard and heat the back of the cupholder, then carefully bending the back out a bit.... Now it works like a charm.
- changed the old-style key to a new style flip key (see photo)
- When I bought her, not all LED's of the RH brake light would come on (in fact only three). Fixed it by removing the old and soldering a new diode to the printscreen, very easy job.
- changed motoroil and various filters
- Changed window trim (was bubbling)
- Changed green LR badges for black ones

Wanting to change/fix the following:
- Replace old head-unit with Android Head unit
- I can feel a very light scraping (do not hear it) when steering to the left, should I replace the track-rod end?
- Steering wheel is off-centre, probably should do a wheel alignment
- Window tinting
- Change differential oil
- Want to do a coolant flush, but I can't find the drain plug off the engine.
- Replace the halogen front lights with Xenon lights (is it just plug and play?)

Ok... 'Nough said.... Time for some photo's...

Android head unit is great, there is a write up in the WIKI
Scraping on turning could be a lip on the edge of the brake discs
Do the diffs and transfer box as well, only use the correct oil from the dealer
No drain plug on engine... just on the bottom of the rad
Not sure about the lights... you would need the whole unit and the starters for the bulbs, be pretty expensive...

Nice looking FF.... Pete

Heb ook nog een 02 staan in de garage, fijne auto! Betere stoelen dan in mijn 07
This is a great place to be, humour, serious help and a bundle of knowledge.
Enjoy the fulfat!

@ haylands... thanks. About coolant the flush: I recently tried it, by loosening the lowest hose from the radiator, but I only gathered about 8 liters from it (I did unscrew the fill cap and bleeding screw on top of the tank). The manual says I should get about 17 liters, so my best guess was that there should be a drain plug underneath the engine...

Saw your write up of the Anroid Unit. Will definitely come in handy when I plan mine...

@ Robert, dankjewel! Only three of us Nederlanders? I had expected it to be more.. So from what region are you???

Says it takes 17 ltrs, not that you can get 17ltrs out!! I just back flushed mine with a hosepipe through every pipe I could find till it ran clear, fitted them all back and filled up with neat antifreeze... Pete

Pieter, I was born in Amsterdam living in SW of France now from 2000 on. Yep only 3 of us, You, Eugene (somewhere in the far east at the moment) and me. That's it.
The pic from the engine was just taken from my 02 where I took the top of to see what's in the down under. I'm not a tech, not at all. Embarassed
Thumbs Up

@ haylands: manual says I should get about 13 Liters out for a refill... I was near to 8 liters... MAybe I should backflush it, as you did.... RAVE does speak about an engine drain plug though.... Step 8 and nine... http://workshop-manuals.com/landrover/l322...p;_refill/

@ Robert, neither am I. But with the help of this great forum and some common sense I hope to do a lot of the maintenance and repairs myself. Thanks for your photo!

Hmm, never spotted that, that's on your passenger side just in front of the starter motor, be a right pain to get to... Pete

@starberg @chex: I ordered a new key here: http://www.ecuobd2.com/trk-land-07-433. I then took this to my local locksmith to copy/cut my old-style BMW key into the new key. I then took the chip out of the old key and placed it into my new key... No need to re-learn the new key to the car because you are using your old chip. Pretty easy to do and the new key looks so much better...

To finish the look I ordered these car tire valves http://nl.aliexpress.com/item/Theftproof-S...80507.html took the Range Rover logo off and superglued it onto the new key... 2002 L322 V8
