Would love another FF but my budget is only about £30k, which would mean a 4-5yr old 4.4, or do I go a newer XF Sportbrake. 3L of course.

Does retirement for you mean a lot of miles ??? If not, I would strongly suggest a 5.0 or 5.0 SC as those engines are virtually bulletproof compared to the diesels. Plus that you get ultra quiet and ultra smooth driving . No problem getting a below 30k one either !!! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
