HEATED SEATS FFRR

Hi all

Right - who knows about this

Vehicle HEATED SEATS FFRR TDV8 4.4 2012 model year

One of our cars has just gone in for its routine 30,000 mile service at dealer

I have been informed that the Heated front seat elements HAVE TO BE REPLACED at service as they (could/might catch fire) and its something that is replaced on a regular basis???

Is this true or was it a sales mans talk ? Has anyone else heard of this ? - as its news to me Shocked
I was told it is done at every major service - ie Service A not the B service

I am not going to say what dealership it is - so don't ask - I do like my dealership they are good Thumbs Up

just for the record - we have the TEA BAG SEATS as I call them - those with air con & heaters in

I have the 2010 MY but don't think there is any difference between MYs.

First I've heard that they are replaced as a matter of service... My drivers one has been but that was cos it broke (and was covered under warranty). It was also £670 at my indy (not LR) so would not want to ask what they might charge.. Ash

ps. If there is a risk of fire then it's surely a warranty recall for LR.... For all vehicles fitted with them. Ash

Hi comports

thank you for the reply - appricated

is it a case of the service manager trying to get extra work ? - my brother has got a FFRR also and last year he paid to get the seats with new elements in

Just wanted to flag this one up - in case it needs to be done / or is recommended / or they do it and charge for it without customers really knowing - or informed it has to be done

Thoughts welcomed or other members who have experienced it

thanks

That doesn't sound quite right! I thought that the heated and cooled variety of seats relied on heat from the engine (heated) and air con (cooled) and that there is no heating element present. I have them on mine and notice it (understandably) takes longer to heat the seats first thing whilst it waits for the engine to warm up. My old 2006 S/C had elements that were much quicker.

Time to challenge that view from the dealer?

Cheers,

Andy. SDV8 AB MY 2019

That sounds like deception to me, if it was a service item wouldn't it be listed on the service sheets? IF it isn't a service item (they state fire risk so surely a warranty item?) & they try to charge you for unnecessary work would it not fall under below from trading standards?

The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 that prohibit commercial practices that are unfair to consumers. If a garage misleads you, for example charging for work that has not been carried out, the regulations may have been breached.

As I beleive later models have air heat/cooling how would they replace seat elements?

you may get away with it with the advice you can gather from fellow forum members but several othe customers unaware of the advice may be connned by them. 2011 (MY12) 4.4 TDV8 Vogue

see crags post in the thread mentioned above, it refers to a filter in the heated and cooled seats, this requires changing as part of the service schedule, maybe that is what they are referring to, and not the element itself. Worth checking. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Mr. Green I get plenty of sunshine thank you Mr. Green

Truthfully I could not afford to run a ffrr if it wasn't for this forum, and having an older ffrr, with working seats Mr. Green Mr. Green , you know that something else will have to give Wink
And I think that the ffrr would have driven me nuts, if it wasn't for the support that we get here Thumbs Up

As for your seat issues, I can't see a peltier plate going whumph, it's more likely a wiring loom fault. Pletier plates are really cleaver things and can give +/- 15 C depending on how they are wired up. They are most commonly found in camping / car fridges (the 12 volt ones), although it would appear from the comments on here they haven't perfected them for seats yet, progress ?

I do remember seeing some unfortunate ffrr bonfires, and it would appear to start under the seats, so there maybe some truth in it. I have a pal who's an insurance engineer and a member of the Institute of Motor Engineers, I'll ask him if they are any tales doing the rounds. Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Those fires are more likely to be the loom rubbing on the seat chassis Miggit... Happens a lot Rolling Eyes ( i meant, The loom rubbing through, rather than fires) Thumbs Up Whistle Embarassed
