Mysterious Alarm trigger

Here's a weird one.

My alarm keeps going off - this happens.

But, I've noticed it's almost the exact same time each day 12:40.

When I go to unlock, deactivate and put the ignition on, the dashboard tells me the bonnet is open, which it is not.

What could be causing this? Discovery 4 HSE

You can adjust the bonnet fit. Spray the alarm widget with wd40 too.

I did the latter. No change.

With the bonnet open and a hammer resting on the switch the dash message goes away, so the switch does work at times, yet for some reason trips in the middle of the day only. Discovery 4 HSE

Why would the warmth of the middle of the day trip it??

It's also the only thing I can think of that occurs at the same time of the day. Sunlight! Discovery 4 HSE

12:40 exactly suggests something else maybe, but I found that "at the going down of the sun and in the morning" my alarm went off.

Lawrence Binyon gets credit for the bit of my post in quotes. Thumbs Up Geoff

You have a black car, the sun is shining, the metal / plastic deforms, the alarm goes off

try parking in the shade

Buy a taylored car cover (LR do them i think), it'll be lighter, reflect the heat and stop the birds crapping on your car. Laughing

(this isn't really a serious suggestion)

Just had that happen to me - on holiday in Spain! Bonnet showing open when it wasn't and alarm kept going off. Had a new bonnet sensor fitted today - hopefully that's sorted it. 2005 L322 Vogue Gold gone

Unnecessary quote removed

This happened to me the bonnet is not keeping pressure on the switch causing the alarm to activate. I put some sticky tape on top of the switch increasing the switch height solved the problem a very common fault 07 Vogue SE Java Black 3.6 TDV8

I used a self adhesive wheel balance weight stuck under the bonnet until got replacement switch.... That worked.
